Wow, it was exciting on chat last night. The big news broke and everyone was stunned. Briefly here is the news. Sets of unissued Series 691 and 701 MPC are going to be available to collectors very soon! These are the spectacular unissued sets that we have known about for some time. However, even though we did have some black and white illustrations in the MPC book, they were not very good. It is exciting just to see the color illustrations, much less the notes! You can see the notes by going to www.starcomm.net/bell. This site did not work last night and there are some problems even as I write this, but Doug is working on it and I am sure by Friday night you can see the notes. Make a point of going to the illustrations before chat tonight. You will be glad that you did and we can chat about it. After the initial shock wears off, the next group of questions are collector type questions. How much, how many, when? Well, the uliimate source of the notes deliberately wants collectors to have first shot at the note and at a reasonable price. Of course everyone has a different idea about what is reasonable, but from everything that I have been able to determine, this is going to happen. Furthermore, the proceeds (100%) are going to charity! How many is of course a big question. 50 sets are being sold and that appears to be the extent of it, but I cannot attest to that. There is also a special twist to this that I cannot talk about at the moment only because I am not sure that I am authorized to do so, but it is a positive twist. The "feeling" is that there are a "few" more sets beyond the 50 but I cannot be sure. These few might be the few sets that the fellow wants for himself, I just do not know. When, well I think that it is going to be very soon. Possibly within a few days you will have an opportunity to purchase a set. How all of this will happen I am just not sure. I will certainly fight to have recipients of the gram offered sets. The seller definitely wants the notes going to collectors. Of course this is one of the eternal questions. What is a collector and/or a dealer? I cannot imagine a more serious collector that I! I think you will agree with that. However, I certainly am also a dealer. I have helped many collectors over the years with their collections. So this may be a little sticking point. This is an awkward and somewhat difficult situation. It always is in cases like this. I will keep you informed as best I can. This "discover" is a research bonanza! Ah, first, let me clarify what notes are available because this relates to the research. The 50 sets consist of 8 notes each. The $1, 5, 10, and 20 of series 691 and 701. No fractionals were printed for series 691. Fractionals were printed for 701, but were not delivered to the DOD. The serial numbers prove that there were two printings of both of these series. This is somewhat amazing in itself but is consistent with other information that we know. I am going to start working immediately on an article putting together everything that we can on these two series. It will be seralized here in the gram then published somewhere. Possibly the BNR. Oh yes, the story announcing this find will appear in the June BNR which is mailed next week. At lest is it is supposed to appear there. With publications, you cannot be sure until it is in print. The article is by Marcus Turner. I have not seen the article yet either so I cannot comment on it. Aside to Marcus. We would love to see the article distriubuted here in the gram in the next few days as a "preview." You sort of asked me about this sort of thing in the past. We certainly can do this without "offending" the BNR people. You can send me the text or we can arrange for you to send it out. Well, guys (still no gals), this is the essence of the news! It is amazing, spectacular, and wonderful!!! I sure look forward to your comments and even your questions for the gram and on chat. Have a great day!
