Hello all, I just had a nice phone call from a fellow who has a few Allied military currency specimen booklets for sale. That is of course nice, and interesting too, but there is more. He has had the booklets for a long time. The booklets include an expedient set of the lire notes. This is only the third such booklet reported, none of which were reported even 10 years ago. These are very intersting items. It is particularly interesting in that they were part of a group of "regular" manufacturers booklets. The other two expedient s came as singletons which allowed no hint of provenance. The story gets better! The fellow bought these sets a number of years ago at a GUN show. The fellow from whom he bought them had a small group of these booklets so the buyer thought that he would buy one of each which he did. Now that is an interesting story and it makes all of us think "why could't that happen to me!" I often discount such stories as being the product of bad memories or concocted to support some personal agenda. I always figure that the items must stand on their own merit anyway so that it does not make much difference what the story is. In this case though it is very interesting, because it is exactly the same story told to me by another collector just a few years ago. Both of these guys must have found this same dealer and his pile of booklets. How many were there altogether? Where did they come from? Where have they gone? Are any left? Those and other questions remain unanswered. They are things of dreams! Have a great day.
