======================================================= MPC Gram ====================================================== Vol 1 Number 51 June 21, 2000 News and Views The M2C2 (Military Money Collectors Club) Meeting was a wild success at Memphis. I believe that it had the highest attendance of any society meeting there! This is even more amazing when you consider that M2C2 has no dues or officers. On the other hand, perhaps that is at least partially why it is so successful. Of course M2C2 does have two great advantages. First the organization centers on the most wonderful of numismatic collectibles—MPC and similar material. Second, it has a great worker in the person of Marv Mericle. Marv has done a great job of creating, reproducing, distributing, and otherwise parenting the newsletter. If you do not receive the M2C2 newsletter, you must send Marv a long self-addressed stamped envelope each time that you receive an issue. The envelope is then used for the next issue. This is a somewhat controversial system, but it is also a great system. It reduces work for Marv because he does not have to create and affix labels or stamp envelopes and of course is saves a little money for the nonexistent treasury of M2C2 at the same time. However, the most important aspect is that it forces more communications between "members" and editor. You are encouraged to include the most trivial of news or whatever with your envelopes for inclusion in the next newsletter. Of course this particular M2C2 meeting could (and did) emphasize the discovery/release of the 691/701s. Marv and Doug gave their versions of the story. They were very similar to the one told by Marcus in the Bank Note Reporter, but there was some supplemental information and it was great to hear it in person too. The hit of the meeting was quite amazing. It was a wooden box from the shipment of Series 691 to Korea. It was marvelous the way the group lined up at the end of the meeting to see the wooden box. It did not have any markings to identify the contents as having been MPC, but it still captivated the cattle (can you hear me mooing?).
