======================================================= MPC Gram ====================================================== Vol 1 Number 62 July 11, 2000 News and Views ======================================================== Gram to go world wide. Well we have been at this for awhile and there seems to be interest in the gram so we will keep it up--with your help. Therefore, we have decided to expand operations. We will send out a news release to every paper money oriented print and electronic source that we can think of. In the news release we will offer free subscriptions to the gram and notify the world about MPC chat. Gulp. Brad P. (shotgun) is drafting the newsrelease for us. You are invited to offer ideas for the release (or criticisms etc). Please send them to us or directly to Shotgun. We will probably publish the draft of the release here first so that you can have a chance to criticize it then! It will also fill up a gram or two! Actually, filling the gram is not a problem. I have plenty that I can write about, but we do want more from each of YOU. OK, I will try one more time. As many of you made sure I knew, I got the BEP yen scheme wrong again. The replacement blocks for Stecher-Traung are H-A (not A-H). I just was not focusing on that part of the deal. Oh well. ======================================================= Letters Joe B. and Neil S. wrote about Mr. 880. Neil wrote that he had not seen it on television for a long time. Joe Boling had lots to contribute on the subject. He wrote. Ken Hallenbeck has apparently seen "Mr. 880" on video, or else remembers it very well. He specifically asked that the Secret Service agent who taught the course on detecting counterfeit US pm at the ANA summer seminar bring one of Mr. 880's notes to the seminar. The agent not only brought a note, but also a plate (not for the same note--apparently this fellow created more than one plate). The name Mr. 880 comes from the Secret Service file number that was assigned to the case; the counterfeit note that was brought has 880 typed on it. [Aside to JEB, tell us about the counterfiets. How good are they?] ======================================================== Calendar In this section we will highlight MPC chat, MPC Fest, and MPC gram events. Other events will be mentioned as they get close. For planning purposes see the papermoneyworld.com calendar of events. The next major show is the American Numismatic Association Convention (August 9-13). This year the convention will be in Philadelphia. 25 years ago the ANA convention was one of the major events for paper money. Now with the development of so many successful paper money shows (and of course the MPC Fest), its importance has diminished, but it is still an important show. Because it is such a big and important show, you cannot help but find some good paper there. Marv Mericle's great MPC collection will NOT be on display as promissed because of family and administration problems. We are certainly sorry to hear about that, but hope that all goes well with Marv and that we will see the exhibit again soon. I will be there the entire time and will be pleased to chat MPC with you! Chat was not operating Sunday night. I do not know what the problem was, but it should be "fixed" for Monday night. ==================================================== --------------------------------- please respond to this address or to fred@papermoneyworld.com --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!?
