From: "MPCgram" To: Subject: MPCGram 1012 Date: Saturday, September 27, 2003 10:46 AM =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Covering the entire World of Military Numismatics Series 004 - Number 1012 Friday September 27, 2003          HE IS DOING OK by Harold Kroll A great friend and fellow collector, Larry Smulczenski had major surgery for prostate problems Tuesday morning. Surgery started at 8:00 AM and he came out of the operating room at 3:00 PM. Seven hours of surgery needed as they found more problems once it was started. Larry's wife called and stated he was doing well but needed a lot of rest from the operation. For now she would like to keep updates coming in the gram and not by phone as she will not be available. I will try to keep updates sent in. He could use a lot of prayers right now, take a few for Larry. More West Fest Steve Swoish West Fest I My feelings about this event, rank up there with a major fest event! Al & committee, did a fabulous job, with tremendous MFC Certificates that were issued to all in attendance, along with the BEAUTIFUL Fest card, made by Ed Beaman. Ed is a true artist, he also made & shared with us West Fester's a plaque, which I should say no more of, other than to say that Guy Araby want's his apartment done in Ed's mosaic's! It is my belief, that many of you all, should have braved the L.A. traffic for this event. This was a West Coast 1st, & should not have been missed, as the show & tell was very informative, on many numismatic themes, heart felt, (Ed's MPC display), & lighter sides of collecting memorabilia? Corporal Chris took the show at the post fest dinner though. Sparky's son, had us all in a lather, as he was in possession of a had to get note, the Serial # 00000001 1 lire replacement. After MANY bids, & retractions, the Jr. infantryman came out with a whopping $50.00 for his troubles, but refused to pay the dinner tab, stating that he only had a burger, not the $17.00 beers, (each) consumed by Ed & yours truly! We really missed a lot of you folks, but do not miss this next year, as this was only the beginning of a beautiful relationship! Once again, my hat is off to Al Glaser & crew, they did a marvelous job! As important as our notes are they cannot compare to family and friendship. We look forward to many more collecting adventures with you, Larry. Take care. We will update his condition as we receive it. Other comments cannot compare to the above, but make sure that you look at the notes issued at WestFest. They are wonderful. I am extremely jealous that the West Fest Currency Board was able to prevail upon authorities to get the use of the British Military Authority one pound notes. This is a brilliant continuation of the overprints from the 1940s. Warner’s now twice delayed column will appear tomorrow. =========================================== MAIL CALL =========================================== Dear Gram, Yes, I am indeed lurking out here. Great idea! We'll ship them all at the same time to whatever address you tell me. They are all prepackaged and ready to go. Tim Scudder has got this project totally under control; just give me an address. Larry [Lee ANA Curator] Dear Gram, I received four (4) copies of #1007.  I gave three away as free samples, so they were not wasted.  But four is a little excessive. This note has the following test: Royal Australian Army Pay Corps/Facsimile Currency for Training Purposes Only. The denomination is 10 (units?). The notes are lithographed on bank note paper with heavy threads. AU $35. I also bought some tokens after the negotiations were complete on the training notes above. One of the cool things about the tokens is that they are in two by two envelopes on which Mark and I commemorated the AmAus MicroFest with the date, title and signatures so you get a souvenir along with the token.
