From: "MPCgram" To: Subject: MPCGram 1018 Date: Sunday, October 05, 2003 6:12 PM =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Covering the entire World of Military Numismatics Series 004 - Number 1018 Sunday October 5, 2003 MPC Internet Auction By Frank Clark It was my pleasure to catalog a large collection of nice MPC for Heritage Coins/Currency Auctions of America for the current internet auction. The sale can be found at www.heritagecoin.com and closes on Wednesday, October 15. There are 92 lots of MPC with all but a handful being from one consignor. There were not any replacements, but many keys were included in various circulated grades. I'm sure the consignor spent many happy hours with his collection and was very proud of it. I myself had much fun cataloging it while getting paid! Hopefully, there will be some notes that you can use for your collections. Here are some of the lots, Series 471 $5, $10; 472 $5, $10; 481 $5; 521 $10; 541 $5, $10; 591 $10; 661 $20; 681 $20; and 692 $10. I am sure I missed a few other better notes. There are also group lots, but their was very little duplication in the collection. I hope I have whetted your appetite! IBNS London Report By Marcus Turner Put day one of the IBNS London Congress in the books. So far it has been a great show with many of the personalities present that I expected to see. As it turns out my big purchase was the set of three Beligan Whiterhulp notes. These are the same ones that Harold features on the ANA summer seminar card this past year. It had been rumored that two sets sold, one in the Cortrie auction. I searched for that set but only heard that Ian had bought it. Ian Marshall or Ian Gradon? I checked with both but both denied having it. Ironically both Ians are at this show. As it turned out Ian Marshall had bought the set and forgot about it. I am taking all three pieces in the set home with me! As expected Pam Wests is always very busy at this show. This year she is selling the new (improved, updated) version of Theo van Elmpt's book on BASFVs. This new book is approximately twice as thick as the old version. I have not yet had time to go over it in detail but expect it to be great (reading material for the fight home). Neil Shafer asked me to pick up a copy for him. I am also bring home two extras if anyone is interested @ £35. I also spent some time with Ian Gradon who is now a full time dealer. I bought a Nazi ration receipt for cut lumber from him. It was a very interesting piece that I had never seen before. It took a little bit of effort to get translated thought. I first tried Michael Turner but he could not read the old text. As surprise visitor, Jack Lippincott also showed today. He could not translate the old text either. Finally Jos Esijermans cracked the code and revealed it was for cut lumber. Other personalities in attendance were Tom Warburton, Mel & Jeromy Stienberg, John Pettit, Trevor Wilkin. Another surprise visitor was Clyde Reedy from Atlanta. Pay operations have gone well with Ian Marshall, Tom Warburton and Jack Lippincott presenting paybooks. Missing in action is Gary "who has fours" Hicks. None of us have seen him here at all??? Several honorary souvenir sets have been given thus far. Overall it has been a great show thus far. =========================================== Editorial/opinion =========================================== Of course I am pleased, excited even, that Theo van Elmpt has a new edition of his BAFSV book. I can hardly wait to learn what new things he has uncovered. Simultaneously, I am amazed, stunned even, that neither Theo, Pam or other UK Gramsters had sent a notice, review, advertisement (all free) or other communication to the Gram about this new book. I took unfair advantage of my position as editor to claim one of the copies from Marcus and I am sure that the other will go fast. In the mean time, I hope that one of the above people will take the initiative to send us a review (or something). Failing that, I hope that Marcus will send one. Finally, I hope that Theo or someone will get a carton of the books headed this way (to me, Marcus, or someone) so that they can then be delivered quickly and cheaply to North American Gramsters. Please let us know. =========================================== MAIL CALL =========================================== Regarding the sale of Lyn Knight auctions, Whoopee!
