I figured that some might say that they rolled on the floor in laughter and that some others would complain that it was inappropriate material for the Gram. What I got was a huge yawn. Not a single response. I guess that means that no one found it funny, but no one wanted to criticize me. =========================================== MAIL CALL =========================================== Dear Esteeemed Editor, I just returned from trip to Hanoi. I would like to quote my beautiful niece who accompanied me and it sums up both of our views of the downtown area. She said "Is not this city very boring?" We arrived late on Wednesday afternoon and my local dealer had to walk us to six hotels before we found one just acceptable to us. Then we ate at his place. His wife cooked us Tofu soup, spring rolls, french fries and beef patties. I ate everything except the beef and shared a beer with my friend. After dinner, we walked around Sword Lake (1.5 km!) and then retired to our hotel rooms. On Thursday morning, we ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant and then went to my friend's store, Tuyet Lan Souvenir Shop (TLS in my Excel database of MPC) His is Mai Quang Thieu, and this is in family, middle and personal name order. I went through his entire stock and bought a lot for myself but also for some of you guys. I will get into that stuff and more about my Hanoi visit at another time. That afternoon, I entered all of his MPC into the Excel database. I graded the pieces with some writing on them, but I can say that most of his MPC is around Very Fine, not counting the staple holes, which I will do when I update it in a couple of days, when he comes down to my house tomorrow and stays until Nov 10. So, please tell me (at Howard@SEAsianTreasury.com) what you want from his list before he departs because he says he cannot mail from Hanoi and you will have to wait until his next trip down to here in HCMC (Saigon). Good luck and good hunting! The Master Sergeant Daniel Hello Gramsters! Well, the news is the "red unc. replacement" is now in my collection! And I answered my own question I asked the gram three (or 4) days ago, which hasn't been released yet… Why and how are there 3 different #541 25 cent listings (printings) in the "Planchette Report". ANSWER: An article by Russ Walsh, Gram #583 breaks down this anomaly. Well I also discovered more "frame variations" long and short lengths and widths, in the same printing. I showed an examples of 3rd printing #481 10 cents with about 2 full millimeters difference in length at the West Fest Long Beach Calif, last June!. Again only examined on gem CU unprocessed notes. Keven Neidy also has located some. Just use a millimeter gauge and measure a group of the same issues. Like #541 $1, #591 50 cents also are given to 2 types, there are more. There out there waiting to be discovered and listed eventually. I also will pay a premium for YOUR unc. examples, some are rare!! See HCL list if you have some!
