From: "MPCgram" To: Subject: Pearl Harbor anniversary Gram number 1065 Date: Saturday, December 06, 2003 11:44 PM =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Covering the entire World of Military Numismatics Series 005 - Number 1065 Saturday December 7, 2003 Intaglio Press for Fest By Kevin Neidy I was going through the ebay site and stumbled upon an auction for a MPC Charities souvenir card that we made for the Dallas show. I am humbled to say the least. It also has given me a great idea that I and other MPC supporters are going to do. First hand I would like to thank all of those that have donated in the past to the causes that we were making the cards available for and to Harold for all his hard work that he put in to sell and manage the distribution of them. And second of all I would like to announce that at this years Fest I will be attending with my American Bank Note proofing press in tow! With the help of other festers ( Doug Bell, David Seelye, Harold Kroll) we will be making a Fest souvenir card right on premise just like they do at the big shows. I will be bringing my little printing museum the one that I am developing for the MPC Kids program. We will be making a special Vignette card in honor of the Planchette Report that will be developed and assembled right at Fest headquarters during the Fest. Also David Seelye is doing a special offering of an intaglio printed Fest Card (on the ABNC press) that he will honor as a coupon at his bourse table to all festers during the event. It will be good for money off type discounts on MPC related merchandise at his table and available exclusively through him at this Fest event. I personally will not be making any cards for the event but will be assisting the others and Harold Kroll with his annual card that he does yearly with his specifications on the American Bank Note proofing press so it should make a great event even greater I hope to see all of you there and I am looking forward to seeing Harold with his hands full of ink? I am sure that if you wanted to give the press a try Harold would not mind after all he will be needing all the help he can get? I will be observing with a smile, I am sure you will too! It is a must attend event with all these offers from Planchette reports to money-off coupons and best of all Harold Kroll up to his neck in printers ink how could you not want to see that? Have a very happy holiday season to all! And were hoping to see you there. =========================================== Editorial/opinion =========================================== I was supposed to comment some more on editorial/advertising policies, but after missing Saturday, I find myself writing on December 7th. This is one of those anniversaries that just must be recognized. At the same time it is impossible to adequately comment on that momentous and amazing day. We generally discuss HAWAII notes and a few other numismatics relics of the day (actually era), and that is fitting for our specialized journal. Still, it is inadequate. No words from someone who was not there or at least lived through the times can be adequate. I hope that you will take some time today to join me in a few moments of silent respect for those who were there and especially those who departed this earth at Pearl on December 7th. 1941. =========================================== MAIL CALL =========================================== Dear Gram, I can tell you that a new feature has been made at hotmail. a "safe list." If I put a sender there, all mail from that sender will come right through without going through a junk filter. So I of course put mpcgram@yahoo.com on that list. So we shall see whether hotmail can fulfill what they promise. Other gramsters who has a hotmail address, can do the same. Very best Flemming Dear Fleming, What a great tip. Thanks. Is there anyone out there who can at least maintain a list of possible fixes to Gram delivery problems. We can run the list from time to time and send it to people with specific problems. Along that line, the mass of bounce messages from the shoe Gram has stopped just as completely and mysteriously as it started. Editor Dear Editor, Thank You, For The Great Explanation...Concerning The "Wanted Section." It Is Often Easy To Sit Out Here, & Throw Darts At You...Criticize. I Just Want You To Know, I "TRULY" Appreciate All You Do. Second Note..... Please, Sign Me Up For Fest Five. I Will Get The Money To You ASAP. I Wouldn't Miss It.....!! Ed Dear Ed, I look forward to chatting with you at the Fest about Gram advertising. Do you remember when I was trying to recruit you for Fest I? You said that you were having trouble getting the OK form your boss. I volunteered to ask Judy to talk to your wife and you replied that, no, you really did mean your employer! Editor Mr. Editor, Had I known that asking to run my want list for pos. # 21 notes was going to cause such a fuss, I would have submitted it months ago. If it were posted that a fee was required, then I would most certainly pay the stated fee. But it specifically says that they "will be run for free" and "will run for a period of one ( 1 ) month. So I took that at face value and submitted my wants, as a humble collector. All I can offer at this point, is my Sincere and heartfelt Thanks to you Sir for your complete and selfless efforts that you put in to the Best Damned News letter extant. And I also thank the three gentlemen who have responded to my ad, even if no deals have been struck as yet. By the way Fred, it is, without any doubt, a three headed monster that you have created and I, for one applaud your decision to do it at your discretion. THREE CHEERS!!! Jack MPC Hunter Dear Jack, Thanks. It looks to me like it is time that you step forward and come to the Fest. You can help defend me there where I am a favorite target. Edtor Dear Editor, I tried to comprehend your editorial concerning answering Mr. Beamans questions. Are you going into politics or what. It seems like most politicians, do speak English, but you still need a translator in order to understand what they say. Your answer to his question is similar to the Winston Churchhill famous WWII quote...."never has one person said so much that answered so little....." PK6 Dear P, Thank you for your letter. It is a great balance to the two before it. Without letters like yours, I might start to believe some of the clippings.
