From: mpcgram-owner@papermoneyworld.net on behalf of MPCgram [mpcgram@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, December 22, 2005 10:45 AM To: mpcgram@papermoneyworld.net Subject: MPCGram 1394 ------------------------ / MPC Gram News Letter / ----------------------- =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Vol 7, no 1394 Thursday December 22, 2005 To all Leo's friends everywhere, from Val May They took Lee off the respirator yesterday, and he began breathing on his own. I know that it sounds tackey and heartless, but we all hoped that he wouldn't, because the neurologist says that he is still in more or less a vegetative state and probably will not get any better. This is definitely NOT what he wanted to happen to him if anything like this happened, but that is the way it is. We have all been praying for a miracle that would bring him back to original state before the accident, but I believe tht if that were to happen, it would have done so already. He has such a strong constitution, (which he showed this summer), that he is holding on. But they say that the brain will probably not improve due to the approximately 15 - 20 minutes without oxygen, we are all praying that he will just stop breathing. He is on a morphine drip, and feels no pain, just sleeps, but we talked about it when we went to have our wills made our 7 years, and both have living wills, DNR, and all that, and last summer with the Terry Schibr case, he said he would never want to be like that. But now, it seems that is where he is, except he is breathing on his own. Please pray for a quick release for him where he will go to a better place and be with God, his sister, whom he loved dearly, and his parents, etc. and will be hale and hearty. To you all, Have a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. Love, Val *********************************************************** Championship Question Corner Question: Charles Vyner Brooke is on an emergency note of what colony? Question 23, difficulty 2. Bonus who question: Who painted the lighthouse illustrated on $1 MFC? Yesterday's Question(s). Subhas Chandra Bose was the leader of what movement? Question 22, difficulty 2. The answer is: See comments below. Comments from the field and from the champ (Jack Hunter): Bill Meyers correctly Bose was in the Indian National Army (INA) and wanted to liberate India from British rule. [Bill seems to be cramming for the Fest. Jim Downey won the championship as a new Fester. Can it happen again?] Herb Friedman writes: The Azad Hind or Free India Movement. Jack Hunter comments: Subhash Chandra Bose? My first reaction was,"never heard of her." But given time to think about it, a luxury not afforded at Fest, I thought of the key phrase "movement" in the question. Then it came to me. The Free India Government ( Azad Hind Fauj ) or just Azad Hind, came to mind. Turns out she was not a she after all, but a character, who, after I read a little bit about him, turns out to be pretty interesting. It's a great thing to have all this history referred to all in one book and then leads to fifty other chapters that I never would have thought about. Turns out that there are several books written about this guy and his efforts to rid India of the British influence, pretty cool stuff! Charles Vyner Brooke, was the last "white rajah" and is pictured on an emergency note of Sarawak S/B # 4801 pg 249 in WW II Rem. Although the entry is very brief, turns out that this could be a long read also. Who knew that history could be so fun? Looks like I might be spending a few nights a the library to read up on this guy too. I am still in doubt about your rating scale though, difficulty 2 ? If it wasn't for the inter-net, this could have been much harder! For the bonus, I am guessing on the faint memory of Fest VI (?) that it was your nephew David (?) Schwan. But that would be in another book altogether. (MFC III Rem.) but I honestly could not locate any mention in that reference. [Yes, David Schwan is the artist who created the lighhouse on various of the MFC. He is also the artist who has been at the Fest doing caricatures of Festers some of which have then appeared on Fest bonds. He is a brilliant artist, obviously the product of good genes. --Ed.] ========================================== Editorial ========================================== It looks as though the end is near for Leo. Unfortunately, that seemed to be the case from the beginning of this ordeal. I too had a few conversations with Leo regarding our human mortality and more specifically our--Leo's and my own. Not that Val needs any endorsement from me, but Leo very clearly had also stated his wishes to me about not being sustained artificially. We certainly will continue to pray for Leo, family and friends, but at the same time I must start to adjust to the idea of a Fest and a life with only the spirit of the ol Paymaster. I am also humbled by the courage and trust that Val has shown in this entire process. =========================================== Mail Call =========================================== Dear Editor: Since my other answers have not been acknowledged, I have no confidence that this one will be - nevertheless the answer is Azid Hind. Now my follow up question is: Who appears with Chandra Bose on the 1000 unit note printed by the Azid Hind? Warner Dear Warner, Since you have scored 100% on the quiz questions, we thought that your responses were not only not particularly interesting to the group, but also a bit intimidating. You did say that you got them all, didn't you? Hey, by the way, I get to ask the questions! Ok, is there only one 1000 unit note? Hm. Editor Dear Gram, Dick and I would like to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Remember the Fest is coming up quick. If anyone would like a special "NAME" on their badges. Let me know as soon as possible. Thanks. LFreyser@cs.com. Loretta Dear Loretta, Sly move getting your Christmas wishes in with a mission letter. Cool. The Boss and I expect to start on our 2002 cards sometime next week. Oh, good point. I assume that you are planning a Boss name badge.
