From: mpcgram-owner@mail.papermoneyworld.net on behalf of MPCgram [mpcgram@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2006 11:07 PM To: mpcgram@papermoneyworld.net Subject: MPCGram 1440 ------------------------ / MPC Gram News Letter / ----------------------- =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Vol 7, no 1439 Sunday March 29, 2006 Fest Auction Report by Larry Smulczenski The Fest Auction was again a tremendous success, finding new homes for a lot of notes, providing a nice boost to the scholarship fund and a morning of fun and laughs for the participating Festers. The total sale garnered $9725.00, of which $2596.00 benefited the scholarship fund. One hundred thirty-five of the 155 lots sold, some of the remaining lots will be offered soon in the Gram PX/BX section for those that missed the initial opportunity. Check them out as they could be wonderful additions to your collection. A couple of lots at the end of the auction drew some of the most exciting action. I indicated that I would not accept any late lots, but the chance to earn significant money for the scholarship fund made me relent. A donation of about two dozen posters illustrating Navy uniforms throughout history brought spirited bidding and was hammered down for $325. A second group of World War II posters brought another $125. A very generous donation of three certificates, each good for one nights lodging at the Port Clinton Holiday Inn Express anytime during the next 14 months donated by Manager Kim Bartish brought in another $150. Our guest speaker, Rob Stevenson donated a letter he wrote to his mother just before the invasion of Japan and it sold for $65. Additionally a bag full of jerky, one of Leo May's Junk Boxes, the preliminary documentation produced in preparation of the new Chambliss Book and some sheets of Chambliss banknotes brought in another $225. Finally, many of the festers got together to pitch in a total of $530 to shave off Fred's scraggly beard as the finale to the days event. I sincerely want to thank all the consigners, donors, the bidders and especially my helpers, Kathy, Dan, Marv, Roger and Miles. Without your assistance, the auction would never have happened. Answer: see comments below Comments from the field: Bill Myers correctly wrote: Question 94: Ireland was neutral during WW II Question 95: Central Bank of Ireland Notes and Irish Currency Commission notes were printed in England and had a letter in a circle in various colors on the face so that if any fell into enemy hands as they were shipped across the Irish Sea they could be repudiated. ========================================== Editorial ========================================== This morning I went to a smal area coin (and stamp) show. Small is the ooperative word. The only reason that I did not spend more on parking than in the bourse is that parking wsa free so I spent zero. I can hardly belive it. Actually, one guy had a little bit of MPC. He had a VG 692 $1 that I considered buying, but in the final analysis passed. This means that MPC was about 50% of ALL paper money at the event! From that point of view I should go back! Even though it was small and not much of interest, I must make on one, make that two, comments. Walkers were very much in use. On a brighter note, At the opening at 0930 there were many customers in the hall. I was most surprised that many collectors had various forms of want lists that they were actively checking, marking and revising. From that aspcet I thought that I was back in the 1960s (although I only attended one show in the 1960s (unfortunately)). ========================================== Mail Call =========================================== Dear Gram, Regarding the complaint of missing issues: 1434 was used twice (3 and 5 March) and there was no 1435.
