Philippine Collectors Forum needs HELP!! As it stands now, I will not be able to organize nor attend the planned PCF meeting during ANA World's Fair of Money in Denver on Friday, August 18th 1-5PM. My wife's recovery from hip replacement last November has not gone very smoothly and I cannot take time off to attend any shows during 2006. I am very disappointed as this will be the first ANA I will have missed since 1988! (I know how Neil Shafer felt last year when he missed ANA in San Francisco for the first time in many years.) I therefore need someone to take over the planning for this years meeting now. Howard Daniel (HADaniel3@msn.com) has volunteered to lead the effort and conduct the actual meeting but he will need help in the following activities which need to be planned and executed over the next few months: --Contact and arrange for speakers--I have a few ideas --Plan for a 2006 PCF token design, finalize and order them by 15 June--I have an idea but it needs to be fleshed out. --Develop a detailed agenda and publish in CW, WCN, BankNote Reporter, Numismatic News, and the Numismatist--this needs to be done soon to meet publishing deadlines. --Solicit donations for the meeting door prizes --Decide whether to conduct a small auction of Philippine material and set up the auction rules. --Coordinate setups with the ANA support staff at the Colorado Convention Center. The date and time are already in the ANA's master schedule, meeting room to be announced. --Coordinate with ANA for a display case for the meeting itself. --Decide if a PCF table is of interest during the show itself. We did one in Pittsburgh two years ago and it was highly visible and successful. I have about $100 from last years donations and it is available to support costs of some activities. Please get back to me soonest so we cancoordinate the planning for this important event. 2. I have received and number of excellent consignments for for Philippine Mailbid IV. I expect to haveover 1500 lots of coins, errors, patterns, tokens, medals, Regular Under US and Guerilla currency, JIM, stamps, paper collectibles, and many books and albums. I will accept consignments through Mary 9th but that is the absolute deadline. I plan to mail out the mailbid list in June. I know that there will be expanded sections including a fantastic group of errors on Philippine coins and a military and commercial token collection including may scarce pieces. Also to be offered is the largest group of genuine 1906S Pesos to be offered in a long time. Consignors are charged only 15% of the awarded price of the lot but only if it sells. Let me know of any questions. For last sale, Mailbid VIII, I received over $165,000 in bids from 181 bidders with over $88,000 in awarded bids. 3. I have in stock the following books/study if you are interested: a. Newly offered: Copy of "Report of The Special Mission to the Philippines" printed by the Manila Bureau of Printing in 1921. Large in size: 8 1/2 by 14 inches, consisting of 28 pages including a large color map showing all the places and how traveled, by the mission team. Bill Myers ========================================== Editorial ========================================== With all of the hub hub over the release of the DaVinci code movie, the boss and I made an infrequent trip to the local multiplex (20 miles) There we saw RV. I could not find anything numismatic in this movie except to tell you that it looked very much like Fred n Judy heading down the road. When you see this movie now or on DVD if you think Judy n Fred you will not be far off. ========================================== Mail Call =========================================== Dear Gram, Regarding the article in MPCGram 1457 about the Women's Army Air Corps, attached is a copy of my mother's (Betty Loney, later Pender)" *leave 'pending discharge from service' ".
