I  started taking all bets on how many days it was going to take Doug to hit his coconut on a hanging beam or obstruction and found many takers, being that he is so tall nit didn’t take long for the bets to end because he is averaging two slams a day! That guy has the hardest head I have ever seen. He hit his head on a beam (a direct hit) while looking the other way and alls I heard was a ping! I think that’s where they coined the term “I RANG MY BELL” and it just is coincidence that it is also his last name. So we are having a great time seeing the ship and all its might I am still in awe that I am a part of this and very grateful to my sponsor “TY” Doug/Karen”s son. They launched and recovered E2’s and F-18 Super Hornets yesterday. It is quite a sight to see them launched off the catapults and recovered by wires. Two planes missed the wire so far and had to do go around burns. It was spectacular to see them shoot in at full speed and then miss the hook and take off again. Doug has the best seat on the flight deck being that he towers over everyone else and can see both ends at the same time, I never realized how tall he was and it’s a good thing when we lose him he is always easy to find sticking out in the crowed. Gotta go for now we will report more later   ********************************************************** Championship Question Corner Question: Yesterday's Question: What denominations were added to the United States War bond program after the porgram started. Question 132, difficulty 3. Comments from the field: Bill Myers wrote: $10 & $200. It is a hub of activity. It always has been. It is also a black hole. Possibly not a world class black hole, but a black hole nonetheless. After making up a bunch of work for the students, Steve and I went out to lunch. From there we went to Brain Fanton's coin shop. Closed. Summer hours closed on Thursday. Drat. I saw Brian today in Colorado and he put the blame on us for not calling first. Well, on the way back to Coe College, we passed another shop. Steve said that he had not been in that shop, I said we are going now. It took awhile but we found a few interesting things and I sold some books. I had some more adventures along the road that I will have to work them in later. Arriving in Colorado Springs I found a very low standard of preparedness by Festers. Wendel Wolka, Gail Baker, Jane Colvard among others did not have their challenge coins. Wendell is sitting here at this moment want to point out that he believes that he is the first person to have ever leased a challenge coin. ========================================== Mail Call =========================================== Dear Esteeemed Editor, I screwed up yesterday with the item about the Finance general's pistol. It is a .32 and John is not a gun dealer but a gun collector. If anyone wants to contact him about it, but if he sells it, it will have to go through a gun dealer. That's all. The Master Sergeant Daniel Dear Gram, Concerning the value of the Reichsmark, a Federal Reserve System report shows the "Free Market Value" of the Reichsmark in June, 1941 as 2.50 RM/dollar. It doesn't show any thing for 1942-1946. Take Care, Ron Dear Gram, I hope you both arrived safely in Colorado Springs. I am sorry that I will not be come to the ANA seminar this year. One thing I wanted to pass on to you and other Military Numismatics. The ANA library received all of the books in the Medal and Awards groups library. Check with David Sklow or Amber, all of the books were Not put out on the shelves. They delt with "non mumismatics items" such as pay records. The book I happen to pick up and glance at had a section on Word War I pay schedule for East Africa. That should get David Klinger looking. Tell everyone hi, and hope to see you in August in Denver.
