From: mpcgram-owner@mail.papermoneyworld.net on behalf of MPCgram [mpcgram@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, July 09, 2006 8:26 AM To: mpcgram@papermoneyworld.net Subject: MPCGram 1480 ------------------------ / MPC Gram News Letter / ----------------------- =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Vol 7, no 1480 Sunday July 9, 2006 Trip Report Continued by Howard Daniel I regularly take out in the evening my niece, Tu, for dinner and tea at a sidewalk cafe. During the July 4th holiday weekend, we went to an inside cafe because it was so hot and humid. Inside were three US Navy chiefs in whites! Their eyes were bugged out when they saw my niece because she is a very beautiful 22 year old and was wearing a very form fitting dress. [this sounds like a reenactment when the young Howard was in Vietnam 30 years ago--Ed] After they suffered for a little while, I went to their table and introduced myself as an American and a retired Army Master Sergeant. I tried to talk with them but they were distracted by my niece. What is it about young Vietnamese women around young American men? When we said our goodbyes, one of the chiefs gave me a challenge coin from their ship. It is the USS Patriot. It is a very, very nice coin and I gave it to my niece, so I will not be able to show it to you when I return to the USA but you might find a copy at the ship's website. That is all for now. I have not seen any other military items of note, to include certain numbers for certain Gramsters. ********************************************************** Championship Question Corner Question: How many classes of Reichlotteri tickets were issued? Question 137, difficulty 3. Yesterday's Question: What series of US bonds were sold during WWII? Question 136, difficulty 3. Comments from the field: Bill Myers wrote: war and defense bonds. Kathy Myers wrote: Series E, F, and G. [Bill's answer is interesting, but since the question specifically asked for series the letters are necessary. There is one small problem needing deconflicting. Series F bonds certainly were issued as defense bonds, but never had the war legend. They were however war bonds in everything but title. I believe that we must go with Kathy's answer. ========================================== Editorial ========================================== Although class does not start for a few more hours, yesterday was busy and it is a bit frantic right now. Yesterday, I and many others went to the Colorado Springs coin show. A spontaneous mini Fest broke out. I hope one of the minis will report on that. I spent a few hours at the show but, believe it or not, that was all that I spent! I had some nice chats with some old friends and made a few new ones. The new venue for the show is quite wonderful even if the location leaves something to be desired (being seven miles from campus). As I look around my dorm room, I wonder how I am going to get all of this junk over to the class room. I also think of all of the things that I wish that I had brought. Last night in the mess hall, I spotted Don Kagin. He was not here last week so I figured that he was a good mark to not have his challenge coin. Not only was I right, but when I challenged him, his bride (they were newlyweds last year at this time) looked sheepish too and I recalled that she too is a rightful holder of a challenge coin so I got a twofer. Barb Olson at the table thought that the odds were good and promptly displayed hers. The bad news is that if history is a lesson, Don will fullfill his obligation at the end of course coctail party. It should be a fun week. Of course I will be reporting on some event, but I hope that some students will also send in some reports during the week. ========================================= Mail Call =========================================== Dear Gram, I have observed the Festers from last year who recieved partial pay that was only a pathetic 44 anas are still (rightly) upset about this situation. How can a Fester survive on a stinking 44 anas? Fest administration should remember this dreadful situation. I suggest that when partial pays are distributed today that back partials be paid as well.
