From: mpcgram-owner@papermoneyworld.net on behalf of MPCgram [mpcgram@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, July 10, 2006 9:13 PM To: mpcgram@papermoneyworld.net Subject: MPCGram 1481 ------------------------ / MPC Gram News Letter / ----------------------- =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Vol 7, no 1481 Monday July 10, 2006 AFC lire issued Payday at military seminar 6 introduced Allied Fest lire. Students were paid in Series 1944 AF lire for the first time. The exchange rate started at 1.70 lire to the US dollar but the lire dropped significantly during the day. Reports are that it was because of the world cup game, but of course there is no way to confirm this. Pay officer Bill Myers presided over payday activities after new students were trained on how to participate in a traditional pay parade. Today at 1730 parital pays were distributed to old timers who had pay books but are not currently students in the seminar. Myers again presided and announced that because of confusion, partial pays would be issued again on Tuesday at 1730 in the mess hall. Home Sweet Home by Kevin Neidy I see Doug has one upped me on the comments I made about Ringing his Bell! Truth is I had entered about a 1/8 mile up stream to get better shots of the Waimai waterfalls in Kauai. I have to hand it to him for catching that shot. I only wish I had my camera out to catch him getting that parking ticket in the Hummer we rented. Doug quickly pocketed it (grinning ear to ear) stating it was a great souvenir for his collection. I guess once a collector always a collector. We had a great time and I had hoped to have better access to emails to report on the ships happenings. We have another friend (Casey Crowdis) that attended with us that took great video shots that should be available (edited) by fest to show all that are interested. We were treated to a show of might by our support ships, with them pulling up close to the side of the aircraft carrier they demonstrated every capability from knocking down incoming missiles, blowing up unlawful boats (drug runners, pirates) to fending off a chemical attack. The destroyer has a defense when attacked by chemical agents to cleanse it self and we have great pictures of it operating that mission, I will send the scans to Doug being he wants to post them on the site for those interested. On the Fourth of July we celebrated our freedoms by having a steel beach BBQ on the Reagan's flight deck it was definitely the best food of the tour! At night we had a traditional fireworks show of tracer bullets from all the ships mighty guns, flare grenades and flare guns and rocket launchers all in sync with patriotic music. A very moving seen while at sea. I ended up getting the boat bug on the last day, it was a very nasty virus that one gets when people do not wash their hands after using the restroom then passed on to others on the rails. The ships doctor stated that it is quite common unfortunately about 1000 of us found this out the hard way. I am told this is the same bug that is going around on modern day cruise ships. makes you think a bit? Even after that I was still very happy to have attended and would like to thank my sponsors Douglas/Karen Bell and their great son Ty for inviting me to attend, giving me 5000+ photos and a once in a lifetime event to remember. Question 138, difficulty 1. Yesterday's Question: How many classes of Reichlotteri tickets were issued? Question 137, difficulty 3. Comments from the field: Bill Myers wrote: thirteen with the last issue not released because of the war. Kathy Myers wrote: there were five classes of German lotteries [Bill's answer is interesting, but since the question specifically asked for classes, Kathy is correct. There were indeed thirteen lotteries and all of them in five classes. Please see also letters.--Ed] ========================================== Editorial ========================================== Day one of the second week ended where the first week ended--with a meeting of ANA staff, directors, and members discussing the apparent proposal to shorten the summer seminar to one week. This week the meeting started out gentler than last week, but the emotions poured out as the meeting progressed. The critical moment came in response to the last question of the day. Governor Don Kagin redeemed himself for not having his challenge coin the evening before and stated unambiguously to the assembled membership that the 2007 seminar will be two weeks in length. I applaud Governor Kagin for his leadership. Although the discussion also seemed obvious to me, he was the only one to step forward and clearly announce the decision. I must also say that he was the best person to make and announce the decision because he is chairman of the association education committee. Congratulations and thank you Don Kagin. ========================================= Mail Call =========================================== Dear Gram, I have received several requests for tiger cruise notes. Thank you to everyone. Now for the twist. Several of the responses were deposited in my spam folder. If you request a note, I will respond. Therefore, if you request a note and do NOT receive a response, your request is out in the either somewhere so please send it again. Doug (doug@papermoneyworld.net) Dear Gram, Greetings from the one left at home! Thanks for all the Gram news during the Summer Session. I enjoy keeping up on what's going on in Colorado Springs - and elsewhere. Thanks for the credit for the question yesterday, though I did not submit an answer yesterday. Hope whoever did clarify the series of the war bonds gets the credit. However, I will try my attempt at today's question, and clarify that I believe there were 13 lotteries, but that the Reichslotterie tickets were issued in 3 classes. We'll see which Myers is right today. Enjoy the second week of class! Kathy Myers Dear Kathy, You get the credit for the war bond question because no one sent in the correct answer. Now you have me worried. When I put in the lotteri class question, Wendell Wolka told me that there are five class, but three seems more correct and I do not have a book here to consult. I am sure that someone will tell us for sure (and I will have a look in the book too).
