The sale was anticlimatic as far as action was concerned, but the results were still spectacular. The great (one of THE greatest) star note opened at and closed to the book at $105,000. By any measurement that is a record price for any World War II note. ***************************************************** Championship Question Corner Question: Question 160, difficulty 2. Whose signature appears on Series G US war bonds? Yesterday's Question: What is the lowest denomination WWII Series F United States Savings bond? Question 159, difficulty 3. Comments from the field: Bill Myers wrote that the lowest denomination Seires F bond was $25. ========================================== Editorial ========================================== I get a kick out of it when the Gram can break honest to goodness numismatic news. Sure, we are the source for news and features on military numismatic items, but breaking had news is another matter. The sale of the North Africa star is an example. Sadly so is the passing of Charlton Meyer. I had some interesting numismataic adventures in a local antique shop today. I will try to get it written up for tomorrow. ========================================= Mail Call =========================================== Dear Fred and everybody Thanks for all the good wishes from everybody. As most anybody who has been in the hobby for a certain number of years can tell you the best thing about numismatics are the friends you make. I just got home from the hospital today (Monday) and am looking forward to some real food, among other things. I was very sorry to hear about the death of Charlton Meyer. He had been a long time friend and his death is a loss to our hobby. Best to everybody and hope to see you all soon. Bill Rosenblum Dear Gram, Pardon me if you have already seen this, but the Seattle Theater newspaper had an article on Joe's departure from the area. Might be worth posting to the Gram.
