It is paramount to begin with the best, and here it is. ***************************************************** Championship Question Corner Question 176, difficulty 2. What series of MPC did the Army order immediately after Series 461? Question 175, difficulty 1. Who was the secretary of the Treasury when US war and defense bonds were introduced? Answers and comments: Bill Myers correctly answered that Henry Morgenthar was the secretary of the Treasury when defense bonds were issued. Warner Talso went on to clarrify the signatures for war and other bonds as well. That response is burried somewhere in the Gram in box. I hope to be able to recover it and use it later, sigh,--Ed ========================================== Editorial ========================================== The following sentence started my editorial in Gram 1522.Wow, another gap of weeks between Grams. The same sentence is applicable now! I am very sorry about that. While the same old tired (but true) excuses apply, there are some additional ones that you might even find interesting. One week ago tomorrow I delivered the materials for production of a new militaray money book to the manusfacturer (printer). The title of the book is Silent Witness—World War II Civilian Camp Money by Festers Ray and Steve Feller. You will like this book on many counts and you will read about most (all?) of these counts in the coming weeks. There is no such thing as an easy book project! They are all different, but they are all interesting and trying in their own way. They almost always require very long hours and late nights in the final days and weeks as deadlines pass (usually broken). In this case the deadlines revolved around the Fest. Yes, the book is scheduled to be released at MPCFest. Feller & Feller will be there for the unveiling so it should be an exciting (roudy?) time. Immediately after finishing F/F (it really is not FINISHED, it is just MOSTLY off of MY desk, the next task was behind schedule. To my surprise more than I thought! In working on the book with Carlson, I learned (possibly relearned) that in the 1940s and 50, Yemen had stamps produced by none other than my old favorite E. A. Wright Bank Note Company! Frankly, there was too much work to do for me to study these listings, but I am looking forward to having a copy of the finished book so that I can do that. Actually, Carlson had planned on having this book too released at the Fest, but that is not going to happen (at least not at Fest 8). Carlson thought that the book was finished months ago, but in addition to some technical and schedule difficulties he found two additional collectors of Yemen stamps to visit for research purposes. I should share some personal information with you. The Boss (Judy) had a torn rotator cuff. I told everyone that it was from wild sex and to make matters worse her partner was suing us. A few people were confused, but no one blieved me. Oh well. It turns out that young people get torn cuffs from sports etc. Old people get it from arthritic shoulders. Anyway, she was operated upon on Jan 15. She has been recouperating since then. She is doing well, thank you. As you can imagine, her condition added multiple levels of complexity to the above tasks! Now that all of the above things (F/F, CC, Boss) have been wrestled to the ground if not completed, we are attacking the Fest. Preparations are behind schedule, but they always are. I expect that the Gram will be filled with Fest news in the next few days. I have reservations (and even checks) here in a pile. Of course a high priority will be to process those. If you have sent either of these, please be patient for a few more days. ========================================= Mail Call (send mail to MPCGram@yahoo.com) =========================================== Dear Gram, The last Gram that I received was number 1522.
