I am on the road, have been for that week. I thought that I had the technology mastered to have the internet just about everywhere that I stopped and if I had the internet, I had email and the Gram could go out. I have been fighting this technology for quite a while. I finally pulled the trigger and bought a data service from Verizon. I tested it from home before departure. It was fine. Indeed, I had visions of canceling my home cable internet and using this service full time. I was excited to hit the road and start reporting from Gram mobile. As you can guess by now, from the first night there were problems. Indeed, there have been problems every day. The service is fairly good, that is fast. Unfortunately, it is also intermittent. Typically, I have tried for a connection upon arrival at the overnight stop and failed. Then just before departing the next morning (when I do not have time for working), I try it again for grins. About 50% of the time it has worked this way. Now I am in Tacoma, Washington at McChord AFB. I have reported from here in the past. Anyway, I came out here to work on Remembered 2 with Joe Boling. Now that I am here, I not only have problems with the technology, I now learn that Joe no longer lives here. I had heard that he had married his ex wife and moved to Indianapolis. That story was so unlikely that I just did not believe it. Ok, ok. I am on the way to Colorado Springs for the Summer Seminar via circuitous routes, but I am working on Remembered 2 as well as lots of other projects. The missed days included plenty of opportunities for Gram reports. Some of them I will remember, others are probably gone for ever. The intermission included the anniversaries of the Battle of Midway and D-Day. Those are both anniversaries that I honor and like to mention in the Gram. There have been quite a few changes here at McChord since I was here the last time. I will report on some of them after doing some scouting. Congratulations to Ed Arrich on receiving the 2007 military community summer seminar scholarship. I do not know Ed well, but we were students together in Peter Huntoon’s seminar class on national bank notes. I look forward to getting to know him better (aside to Ed and all students, bring your Remembered, MPC, and Witnesses books or be prepared to purchase them). Bring your paybook and challenge coins if you have those. I can be reached most of the time via my cell phone. Please do not hesitate to call--especially if you have a really big deal for me: 419 349-1872. Aside to Dick Freyser, please call me. ========================================= Mail Call (send mail to MPCGram@yahoo.com) =========================================== Dear Gram, I sure have missed the Gram here lately, have even resorted to reading back issues and, of all things, John Regitko's CNA newsletter. It's not long on WWII stuff, or even MPC, but it is well written and is quite humorous on most days. Jack Dear Jack, We are trying to get it going again if the tech gods will be just a little more helpful. Keep reading the CNA newsletter! John is going to bring 10 Canadians to Fest 9!
