I warned readers in the subject line. This is the only item in this Gram because it seemed somewhat appropriate and mostly because somewhere in southern Idaho on my way to Colorado Springs, I did not have anything else ready. We have mostly stayed out of the ANA election. I think that we ran Joe Boling’s position statement and offered to run others but received none. The first time that we endorsed a candidate for an ANA elected office was when John Wilson ran for president. Basically, the endorsement was based upon his status as a paper money guy. He was elected and subsequently attended a Fest. This is a very interesting election to say the least. It is amazing that it can be so contentious--and interesting--without contests for president or vice president. Nevertheless that is the case. I decided today that in the finest traditions of newspapers, that we would endorse one or more candidates for the ANA board of governors. This has not been an easy decision (although the endorsements were). If it were not for the tradition of newspapers making endorsements, I would duck the matter. We endorse two candidates for the board of governors. They are in alphabetical extreme order: Joe Boling and Wendell Wolka. The fundamental reason is that they are both Festers and have supported the Gram in many unselfish ways. Joe Boling has been by far the most prolific Gram contributor. By the way they are both Seminarians too. Of course Joe in the capacity of instructor. (Wendell has also been a several/many times seminar instructor albeit not in the military class. I have known both of them for many years. By chance Wendell and I flew together to Memphis I and when I came home from it I called Joe Boling in Germany to render a report on the most amazing of numismatic events--a paper money show. I disagree with both Boling and Wolka on a few matters, but the disagreements are not serious and most importantly they have proven their worth by being willing to discuss the matters in civilized ways. I am very comfortable with making these endorsements. I am uncomfortable about not making a few more endorsements. I know most of the other candidates and most of them well. I have decided preferences and have told most of these candidates that they will receive my vote, but I cannot make the connection to give them a Gram endorsement so I will leave the endorsements as Wolka and Boling (reverse order for just once). Of course the most important message of all is to please vote. Agree or disagree with our endorsement? Please vote. Encourage others to vote for Wolka and Boling if you like, but please encourage them to vote.
