The last note I needed I got from Harold and it was a 541 $5. This all started when I was the Pay Officer in Vietnam (1971-72) for Series 692. Of course I didn't know at the time that MPC was collectable. For that reason, I brought home two 692 1.00s. I immediately taped them in an album. I still have one of them, tape marks and all. Over the years and throughout my travels, world-wide, I have collected crisp, uncirculated currency from all the countries I have visited. About ten years ago I started to collect US notes, mostly the large size. I then realized that if I was going to ever complete a collection of anything, I would have to specialize. With the then top number of 94 notes, MPC was an attractive choice. I started my search in earnest about 5 years ago. I was an early user of Ebay and I was able to get a great start and some really good prices back when Ebay first got going. I bought the MPC book from Fred and talked frequently with Phil and done some trading with both of them. I currently have a little over 87% (82 notes) in my regular (94 note) collection that are UNC. My goal is 100%. I have 6 of the highest reported serial notes, one pack of 661 1.00s, one evidence note (story to be included in the new book), two counterfeit notes and two sets of the 691/701 notes, including a 691 20.00 replacement. I am missing about 11 notes from the multiple printings. I need the following to make the 94 note set UNC......461, 471, 481, 521, 541 and 591 $5 and $10s in each series. Lots to trade or barter with so give me a call. I have to say that in all of my extracurricular activities that without a doubt the people I have met in the MPC group have been the friendliest and most honest that I have come in contact with. Thanks to you all for your help to get me this far. Good luck on your collections and happy holidays. ==================================================== Editorial ---------------------------------------------------- You will not likely belive this. Today I was feeling a little sorry for myself because I had to spend most of the day crunching numbers of MPC replacements! I caught myself just in time to count my blessings. If one went looking for a job as "MPC replacement serial number cruncher" it would be a very hard job to get and lots of people would like to have it so I decided to count my blessings and compare some more numbers! ==================================================== Mail Call ---------------------------------------------------- Dear Gram, Come on, Tom, if you are old enough to have participated in the SE Asia wargames you are old enough to remember postal zones. They preceded ZIP codes. San Diego 36 is a postal zone; find a sramp collector who specializes in California postal history and he will be able to tell you where SD 36 and SD 37 were. Fred, what was supposed to be past the twelfth word of the editorial today? And this crap about new information being available at 2300 Friday is just that--crap. Either tell us the news, or don't mention it. Joe Dear Joe, Please, please, please, count to three, take a deep breath and try REAL hard to....smile. Fred Hi Fred, I believe you asked for serial numbers of replacements notes. My one and only replacement note is a Series 692 five cent note in VF. The serial number is E00506196. When I bought it, I did not realize it was a replacement note and I guess the dealer didn't know either by what he charged me. Lou P Dear Lou, Thanks alot for the report. Once again this is a report that would not normally be published, but you had a nice story to go with it and since it was your first contribution to the survey, we thought that it would be nice to also make it your first contribution to the gram! The story actually continued with an interesting twist. Your replacement was prevously reorted so it apparantly had been identified as a replacement at some time, so you not only got a good deal, but were really lucky! Timing is everything!
