Any Bonds Today?, by Beth Py-Lieberman

Reviewed by Howard A. Daniel III

The February 2002 issue of the Smithsonian magazine has an illustrated article about World War II War Bonds. The article is well written, but one of the best parts are the sources of the posters. Maybe they have some not illustrated that actually show some war bonds or they have the war bonds too. For those collectors of War Bonds, a visit to the Northwestern University Library, American Art Museum, National Museum of American History, and the Smithsonian's Government and Map Department might result in some worthwhile discoveries. I believe the Numismatic Department of the National Museum of American History, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and the Treasury Department could also have some bonds. Good hunting.

Editorial
----------------------------------------------
Gram 568 was sent from Ottawa, Canada where Ski and I were doing some research. You will hear more about that in the future. One of the really good things about the trip was that there was a public library close to the cheap motel where we stayed so I was able to work on that Gram and on some of the technical problems with a fast computer/internet connection.
It turns out that one of the big problems that held us up was the Yahoo Yo Yos who saw fit to reduce the maximum number of addresses in one file for broadcasting from 100 to 40. That reduction came at the same time that we were working on the book, the Fest, and travel arrangements for Chicago etc. Add to those complexities the problems with my slow modem connection and all too unreliable Window’s box, and we had a real Gram disaster.
Obviously, many of the “problems” stated above have now passed so among the new projects and problems, we can work on streamlining the Gram and getting it back on schedule.
We certainly have plenty to write about and report and know that others do too. Please, do not be dissuaded from submitting material by the poor performance over the past few weeks! Send in your material. We need and want it!

Dear Gram,

I wanted to take a few minutes and tell you how much I enjoyed the Fest. I really had a good time.

Sam Feeback

Dear editor,
While at the MPC FEST III, I was given a hand written listing of a Fester's holdings of MFC series 011. I would like to contact the person, but I neglected to write his name on his list. Please contact me at coinman@rochester.rr.com about a note in the list.
David

Dear Editor,
I received a copy of Gram 568/01 & 568/02, both of them are identical. Now if I'll just receive a copy of Gram 568/03, I'll have individual copies for me, myself & I.

 Ken Berger

Dear Editor,
Many thanks for a great MPC Fest III. As expected, I had a great time, spent a bit more than I had planned but seems as though I most often do. Thanks to all the dealers and everyone who participated to make this such an enjoyable event. To those that did not make it to Fest III you missed out on a great time. Please sign me up for MPC Fest IV.

Hot Contact List

Below is the BNR Press Hot Contact List. This list serves several functions. Obviously it is an outreach by the dealers listed for your business. Most of them buy and sell MPC. Others organize shows or publish periodicals. They have supported the new Comprehensive Catalog of Military Payment Certificates with their advertising. They deserve your support and patronage.

Secondly, this is a draft from the book that participating dealers should check for correctness. Finally, dealers who are not on it and want to can still get their ads in if they act promptly. Respond to this email or call (419) 732-6683.

We are sorry if the format is a little messed up here in the Gram, we are not sure of how to fix it!
