============================================== Fatwa On Paper Money ==============================================
The above, Wednesday's and Friday's installments were
sent to me by Dave Klinger from the website of World Islamic Trading
Organization. Although we are paper money collectors, mostly of an obsolete
issue (being as MPC is no longer used), we do however pay for it with current
issues of currency, mostly US or Canadian Dollars, but also, Euros, British
Pounds, Dutch Guilders, Japanese Yen, Italian Lire, or whatever other monetary
form of currency your country of residence may be. We also trade for MPC, with
other MPC, or other objects of desire. Although I do not normally pay attention
to such dribble (remember- this is an editiorial - Also, Guy Araby has found two more mistakes in the Catalog of MPC.
They are listed below in ther correction section. Many thanks to Guy - Keep up
the excellent work! Ass't ed. ============================================== ==============================================

FEATURED ARTICLE
by Dave Klinger (from an Islamic
website)
Part I:
PAPER MONEY IS NOT A LEGAL MEDIUM OF
EXCHANGE
If paper money is a debt representing a merchandise
(dayn):
The debt must have a definition of what is owed.
But even if
it is defined as a proper debt, a debt cannot be used as a medium of exchange.
Concerning paper-money as wealth entrusted to non-Muslims, this is not allowed.
If paper money is a tangible merchandise ('ayn):
Its
value corresponds only to its weight as paper. Equally we take the value of the
dinar by its weight not by its nominal value.
Either way, paper money
cannot be accepted as a medium of exchange.
We have heard economists saying:
"We need a flexible currency"
"We need a currency that can be expanded
or contracted according to the needs of the economy"
"An increase in currency will quicken
industry"
These are all fallacies to
justify the insolvency of the issuers of the notes in order to avoid
their obligations to pay. There is, in truth, a great charm in the idea of being
able to pay off all our needs, satisfy all the government expenses and to make
the whole community prosperous, just by printing a few characters on bits of
paper.
But when a man is capable of
believing that, he will believe anything. Another fallacy to justify theft is to
say: "It is an emergency" indeed a war can influence anybody to accept what
appear to be solutions. After the emergency comes the semi-emergency of a
crisis, or an almost-emergency time or an almost-normal time. In every case our
individual rights are no longer in our hands. Any failure to repay in whole
or in part what is due by the promissory note is but a form of theft

CALL
Dear (assistant) editor,
You have done a great job. You
can hardly imagine the fun of opening and reading a Gram rather than creating
one. Actually, it is fun creating them too as I can see you are
experiencing. We (you) seem to be working around the compatablity problems so
that everyone can receive the enhanced Gram. I sure hope that anyone who is
having problems has reported them (the problems). Wiz has reported that he has
cleaned up the subscription list quite a bit, but it is still possible that some
Gramsters have been lost. If you did not receive this Gram, please report that
fact (smile).
Fred
(I don't recall if Fred printed this letter
or not, so I'm running it:)
Here is another pair
for ongoing BAF ink color question:
2nd Series 2/6 Watermark - DD/7
866827 SN in red
2nd Series 2/6 Watermark - DD/7 890541
SN in brown "lilac"
only 23,714 notes apart.
Now to start a
new inquiry:
I have in my possession a AMC German 1 mark, Forbes
printing, with 9 digit serial number, and to the left of the first digit (a zero
in this case), is a dash that is .1 inches long and slightly above the
horizontal center line of the numerals. This dash has the same color appearance
of the numerals, and is embossed into the note. (You can feel it through
back of note) It also appears to have the same "glitter" or iridescent effect as
the rest of serial number.
Printers error? Previously unreported 9 digit
Forbes replacement? Fluke/Freak? Who knows. I sure don't, but I sure would like
to know!

Very interesting replacement. Series 692 $10 (!!), serial
number E00032007 pos 5. This SN demonstrates the system very well. Four
positions completed = 32,000 notes. This then is from sheet number 7. Note is
overall very fine, but looks extremely fine from the face. The centerfold that
is strong on the back is not even noticable on the face. Two staple holes that
saved the note from destruction 30 years ago at left. Yours for $3300, terms
possible. Confirm at: fredschwan@yahoo.com
