                                     Gram Back

Richard Nixon’s sinister forces must still be hiding to unleash their powers at the worst possible time! On the day that your editor was departing for the Florida United Numismatists (FUN) Convention, web master and wizard Doug Bell reported a major problem with the utilities used to mail the MPCGram. He has worked hard to resolve the problems, but has not been able to.

Now that we are back from FUN, we have been working on other solutions here at HQ. Unfortunately, there has not been much progress. Today, in an effort to get a Gram out, we are sending this Gram with the Yahoo mailing utility. This in itself is not so bad. The bad news is that the mailing list is out of date. Some new names that were added at papermoneyworld are not on the current list and some addresses that had requested removal from the list are included. We are very sorry about the inconvenience, but there does not seem to be any alternative.

                                                  New Festers

Three collectors, including two New Festers, have submitted reservations for Fest III. New Festers Carlson Chambliss and Ray Bows are both numismatic authors and MPC fans. In addition to participating in other Fest activities, they will be available for book signings at the Fest.

Currently 28 people are confirmed for Fest III. We are now clearly beyond the total for Fest II. We should pass 30 very soon and it seems that we certainly have a shot at 40 and possibly even 50. Get your reservations in soon!

                                  Editorial

----------------------------------------------

The following editorial was prepared before the computer problem described in the lead story. In many ways, the problem described below is minor compared to the above, but it, nonetheless, requires publication. I thank you for your patience during these many problems.

Gram 531 was a new low in technical and training problems! An incorrect shell was sent out. When Wiz attempted to bail us out, the technology got in the way and made it worse. We were tempted to use the ruse of many numismatic organizations and create a double issue of the Gram, but decided not to. Neither are we extending subscriptions (as we have sometimes done in the past). Instead, we will resend Gram 531. If that will be before or after Gram 532, we are uncertain even as we write this editorial.

Of course we are sorry about any and all inconvenience. We welcome your barbs, criticisms, and arrows about this most recent mess.

                               Mail Call

----------------------------------------------

Editor’s note: many letters have been received about the Grampause, examples will be published in the next few days.

Dear Editor,

Marcus was right! I made a donation to the Scholarship Fund and he said you would never or take a long time before you would update the list of donors. Shame, shame. Are there others not on the list?

Howard

Dear Howard,

Thank you (very much) for the generous donation. I am not certain about the shame comment though. It does sometimes take awhile to get the notice of a new donation in the Gram. First (of course) there is the well known, documented, and talked about inefficiency of the otherwise erstwhile editor. However, more importantly this same editor generally applies initiative to the reports so that they can be the major story of the day or at least get major attention. I am quite sure that no donations have been made for which the donor is not listed daily in the Gram. That is not because of a burst of efficiency, but because Marcus checks the list! Occasionally a person drops of the list in a copy/past operation, but Marcus catches it!

To the extent that we (I) have not lived up to the task of supporting the scholarship program editorially, I apologize.

Editor
