Now important data on AM lire!

By Theo Van Elmpt

Thank you for the offer but I think no [on the offer of a regular column. Nevertheless, here is something else you may like to know. Ref. WWII Remembered page 276/AM Lira The change from 1943 to 1943A series took place on 1 April 1944 The first serial numbers to bear the amounts in words were:

5 lire A 68640001 A

10 lire A 22176001 A

50 lire A 49308001 A

100 lire A 38508001 A

500 lire A 07812001 A

1000 lire A 04192001 A

All notes with these and higher numbers therefore had amount in words. The 1 lira and 2 lire notes were never printed with the amount in words (so we can stop hoping to find one).

The deed is done. Yes, the book has gone to the printer. I do not know how many false starts there were or even when we really started to work on this edition, but I know that it is (finally) finished. Actually, there are a few little lose and bothersome ends to resolve and there certainly will still be plenty of opportunity for disaster. If none of these disasters is too great, the book will be sent out before CPMX. It will then be available over the counter in Chicago and then at the Fest!

It is always exciting to get rid of a project. It is then of course more exciting to see the project finished and held in one’s hands. This time there has been an extra twist—the Gram and Gramsters. I have been able to share many of the frustrations with you as we struggled. This has been a helpful and enjoyable innovation.

Speaking of innovation, the book includes some of those. Some in the way of new discoveries, others in the way we have assembled the thing.

I will tell you some more about this in the next few days.

Theo VanElmpt declines to have a column, but on two consecutive days he provides great information. Theo, call it a column, call it an article, call it a letter to the editor, but please write often. I assure you that I and many others love this information!

Dear Gram

- I would like to offer some notes in the MPC Gram. I will donate 20% of the sales price to the Scholarship program. I was impressed with how quickly the other notes sold and hope these will find some new homes.

Thanks

All three are reasonable. If you can arrive early enough AND coordinate it well ahead, every attempt will be made to pick you up at the airport to save on rental cars. Hot Contact List

Below is the BNR Press Hot Contact List. This list serves several functions. Obviously it is an outreach by the dealers listed for your business. Most of them buy and sell MPC. Others organize shows or publish periodicals. They have supported the new Comprehensive Catalog of Military Payment Certificates with their advertising. They deserve your support and patronage.

Secondly, this is a draft from the book that participating dealers should check for correctness. Finally, dealers who are not on it and want to can still get their ads in if they act promptly. Respond to this email or call (419) 732-6683.

We are sorry if the format is a little messed up here in the Gram, we are not sure of how to fix it!
