    Annual Prediction Gram

We received a few predictions for 2002.

Brad Peacock indicates lots of confidence with a
prediction that the new MPC book will be released in
2002.

Mrav Mericle had a short list of predictions:
1. Calendar of Events will return to the GRAM
2. Someone will place a list in the "WANTED" section
of the GRAM
3. General events will return
4. Ed Beaman and Warner Talso will have an email
address listed in the Staff Section.
5. FEST III Will be a big hit.
6. More -- MPC information will be found!!!!

David Seelye gave us a short list of predictions:

1) MPC FEST III 40 attendees
2) 4th edition of the Comprehensive Catalog of
Military Payment Certificates will be issued, and then
converted to the new and improved 5th edition In the
Fall of 2002.
3) A special "MPC" issue of "The Bank Note Reporter"
4) A new "Major Discovery' will surface

Dear Editor,
Help!!! Just got home and find I am missing MPCGram
519 and 524. Please help.

Marv' Mericle

Dear Marv,
Wow, some are complaining about getting too many
Grams and you are not getting enough! Seriously, I
think that there may have been a problem with 519 and
possibly even 524. If we can figure this out, we can
send the Grams again.

         Editorial
----------------------------------------------

I thought that I was in a time warp. I had either been
transported back to the 1950s and my youth, or back to
that other time warp in Maryville, NY. Why do MPC
collectors live in places like Maryville, NY, Port
Clinton, OH and Duncan, OK?
A sidetrip to visit Doug Bell in Duncan, OK was not
too far out of the way over the holidays so when Judy
was sleeping, I moved off the interstate and headed
that way. The first thing that we saw upon arrival was
a drive in restaurant. We could not resist,. yes, we
were served by a car hop.
While I was enjoying the experience, and even the
food, Doug arrived. It only took him a few minutes to
get to the Sonic drive in so I was a little surprised
when he knocked on my car window. Due to the surprise,
I missed a great opportunity to challenge him with my
MPC challenge coin [sic].
I made up for the missed opportunity by challenging
him the instant that we got out of the car at his
house. Actually, Judy and I BOTH challenged him.
Busted. He was busted. The only way to keep from
losing such challenges is to always carry your
challenge coin!
We had a great, if short visit. Among all of his
wonderful notes and other things, Doug was most
excited to show me his new, custom, stainless steel
MPC box. Doug had this box built to hold his MPC
collection. You might think that this would not be a
big deal. Well, you must remember that we are talking
about the Bell collection here. He is the one trying
to get a complete position number collection. His
collection consists of thousands of notes and will
have thousands more when it is finished! It is a neat
box I must admit. He plans to show it off at the Fest.
Speaking of the Fest, it seems that Doug will be
leading a serious delegation to Ohio. Three collectors
from Oklahoma have reserved space at the Fest. No
other state has more. Indiana also has three, but on a
per capita basis Oklahoma wins hands down. California,
New York,, Illinois, Pennsylvania and a few of the
other “big” states should be embarrassed!

Just a comment further to David Klinger's letter on
Euro coins.

96 coins would not include those minted by Monaco, San
Marino and The Vatican. These would have to be added
for a BASIC type set.
The finnish 1 & 2 cent coins are currently only in the
starter set and then, of course, you would have to
include all of the pre 2002 dates and various mint
marks making it closer to 300 pieces for a complete
set through 2002.

Dear Editor,
I received two of these [grams] again, still from
two different return addresses, still with the same
day and time.

Dear Editor,
  Me too.

Three airports are reasonably available for the Fest.
In order of proximity they are:
  Toledo
  Cleveland
  Detroit (Metro)

All three are reasonable. If you can arrive early
enough AND coordinate it well ahead, every attempt
will be made to pick you up at the airport to save on
rental cars. Festers are encouraged to coordinate
among themselves for rides. We will also run notices
in the Gram and, finally, we will try to coordinate
for Festers to run pickups from Fest central.
