Well, it may not be all MPC, it might even have some fabricated, metal discs, but nonetheless, he has opened a business establishment where you are sure to find MPC and many types of military money. You should visit the shop at your first opportunity! Benton Coins & Collectibles 235 Main Street Benton, PA 17814-0378 (570) 925-1055 Open: Thursday-Sunday 10a-5p (EST) Seminar Report by Mark Watson Well, Day 1 of the Summer Seminar began with the annual book sale. Put on by the ANA library, the book sale is like a yearly sale at Macy's, with fellow collectors diving and pushing to get to the selection. This year, I had in mind picking up any MPC books that I could fit into my library. Specifically, I was looking for Toy's third edition to finish the "set." 0900 came around, and the wild rush began. Even though a numbering system was used, similar to what Southwest uses for seating, that quickly broke down as everyone swarmed into the room. The room consisted of one large table in the middle and other tables lining the walls. The middle table consisted mainly of books and price guides while the outer tables held numerous auction catalogs and periodicals. Glancing quickly at the middle table, I saw some JNDA catalogs, and lots of Standard Catalogs of World Coins, but nothing military related. Walking around the room, I came across year sets of the Numismatist, another collecting bug I have. Getting out my want list, I quickly found four complete years I did not have, and at $1 per set, quickly picked them up and looked for a box. As the mob around the main table still thrived, I decided to take my winnings and head to the cashier. As I placed my box on the checkout stand, I looked at what the gentlemen in front of me had found. Wouldn't you know it. Only three books, but one was Toy's third edition, the exact book I wanted. And only for $3. Oh the agony... ============================================== Editorial ============================================== We wish good luck to Bill Yanchick in his new [ad]venture. Of course we look forward to hearing more from Bill in the way of advertising of material for sale, but we also want to hear from YOU if you visit his shop or any shop that might hold promise for collectors of military money. Fred ============================================== MAIL CALL =============================================== Dear Gram, In response to Mr. Cummings and Mr. Berger's comments regarding the "Mickey Mouse" money, they are right that it has nothing to do with military numismatics. But this is a hobby. Hobbies are FUN. Anyone who can eke out fun from military numismatics -- God bless 'em! So you guys are wrong. Steve Jinks Dear Editor-- Enjoyed being with the Gramsters at the ANA Summer Seminar last week. I'm still not collecting this material but am slowly edging towards attending Fest III next year anyway. I got in the spirit of things by running Joe Boling up on a couple of MPC related items in the YN Auction (of course always knowing my place by letting him have them at the last moment). As to the Mickey Mouse Money thread, well yeah they are kind of a "manufactured" collectible, but they do serve as a good training device for classes, etc. The fact that a few Gramsters have gone heads over heels on them is...well...fun. And that afterall is what this is all about anyway. Wendell Wolka Dear Wendell, Thanks for writing and for running Joe up! We look forward to seeing you at the Fest. You will see that I have added you to the list. From your letter it is clear that you will fit right in. Procrastination is a favorite of ours. We look forward to seeing you at Fest IV. We might have a make up for Fest II at Fest VI! Editor Dear Editor, Looking forward to seeing you at Fest IV.
