============================================== MPC GRAM ============================================== Covering the entire World of Military Numismatics Series 004 - Number 787 Monday November 25, 2002 MPC for Television? By Sam Feeback "Mail Call," which is hosted by former USMC drill Instructor Lee Ermy, It comes on history channel , on monday or sunday nights. On this show he answers questions of a military nature that are sent in by people across the U.S. I sent them a question about what is MPC and how was it used? They told me they are considering the question , however I don't know if they will use it on the show or not ? I think it would be a very good segment to put on the show. I wanted to let you know about this in case it comes up. It might even be something they would want to film at the fest? Email address of the show is Mailcall@digitalranch.tv ANA beneficiary of MPC rarities >From Numismatic News submitted to the Gram by David Klinger An anonymous donor has provided the American Numismatic Association Money Museum with eight Military Payment Certificates from two unissued MPC series, Series 691 and Series 701. Four notes from each series arrived in an envelope with no return address, reported the ANA. Notes from both series were printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, though neither were issued. Both were ordered destroyed in the 1990s. Series 691 was intended for use in Korea as a replacement for Series 651. The Series 701 notes were intended for U.S. military in Vietnam. ANA collections manager Christopher T. Connell said the notes arrived following an organized effort announced by the e-mail newsletter MPCGram to supplement the ANA’s MPC material. MPC Database passes mark, has sponsor By Doug Bell The MPC data base has passed 8000 entries and $1.5 million! Both of these thresholds were crushed over the weekend. We should reach the $2 million level soon and I expect that 10,000 notes are possible in December. We are pleased and excited to announce that David Seelye has become the sponsor of the MPC database. His generous sponsorship will allow needed enhancements to the data base and other parts of papermoneyworld. Your suggestions for the data base are very welcom: doug@papermoneyworld.net. You can go directly to the data base with this link: http://www.papermoneyworld.net/user/default.asp ============================================== Editorial ============================================== Do you remember the lengthy complaints I made a few weeks ago about computer life? I have a confession to make. It was all true, every word of it, but there is a twist. Last night I was experiencing one of the small aggravations that I had with Adobe PageMaker (7.0) while working on the WWII book. I decided to go to the Adobe website looking for work arounds and the like. When I got there I found an update to version 7.0.1. Within just a few minutes I downloaded it and had it running. I bet that if I had registered the software, I would have even received a notice of the update. Darn. I received one preliminary report that the Pcda St. Louis show was very good. A show report from a Gramster is very much needed. Fred ============================================== Mail Call ============================================== Dear Gram, I've received 786 and have enjoyed it all three times. I hope that there are not problems that are causing three repeat tries. Having gotten all three successfully, however, I now wonder if the first run of 786 now has collector value??? If so, I have all three editions of Series 786 if anyone is interested. --Chris Connell Dear Chris, 786/2 is the scarce one. We had some unexplained difficulties sending out Gram 786. In fact, many of you did not receive it until today just a few minutes before ram 787. Of course we are sorry about the late delivery and any inconvenience. We are also a bit bewildered about how it happened, but then bewilderment is not all that unusual around here (as many of you know). Editor Dear Editor, Would Mark "Sparky" Watson share his "Do not buy from list."? don greer Dear Esteemed Wind Twisted, Mind Blown, Black Hole Editor: My congrats on the new milestone & I am looking forward to many more. I am looking forward to the Fest. Don't know what I will have to offer this time. Maybe I will just soak it all in. It will have been less than a month, then, since I got up off the operating table so it might be that the only "feasting" I will be able to do is with my eyes and ears. My best to "The Boss" and may your Turkey Day be full of stuffing, FUN and the blessings of your God. Best wishes from sunny, WARM, Flordia Paymaster Hello Leo, Thanks for the good cheer and the same to you and yours. I too am looking forward to the Fest. Also looking forward to seeing you and other Festers at FUN. Editor Dear Gram, Shill bidding is a fact of life - live with it. The only people to get hurt by it are greedy and/or stupid anyway. Determine what something is worth to you and set that ceiling - anything else is "just plain dumb". Best example I see of shilling on ebay comes from MPCGram. I read of a really "great deal," "really rare opportunity" and "worth great deal of money" on an item trading on ebay. So I take a peak and sure enough the bidding is fast and furious and way over what it's worth. Shill - Scam, all the same , just a different way to skin somebody. BOSOX36 Dear Editor, I just checked the ANA website and discovered there is no mention of the upcoming exhibit opening. None. Nada. Zip. It would appear to me that a little promotional publicity would be in order. Name Withheld Dear Name, Your point is certainly well taken. I hope that the staff is reading the Gram!
