In the 24 hours after this fact was announced in the Gram she reports receiving several inquiries about buying her set. In response to that interest she has decided to donate the number two set (matched numbers) to the Military Money Seminar Scholarship Fund to be auctioned at Fest IV in March. More From Colorado Springs Warner Talso Let me add some personal impressions to Joe's excellent report on the ANA's museum exhibit, "Rendezvous with Destiny, The Money of World War II. Jane and I arrived about 1600 on Friday. We checked into our B&B and immediately started driving to Denver for the DAWN club meeting. The traffic on I-25 between C Springs and Denver has gotten out of hand. It was a slowly moving parking lot. It took 2 hours to drive 60 miles. We began to wonder if it was worth it! Well, it was worth it. The DAWN folks were very hospitable and welcomed us warmly. There were 25 people present. We met fellow Gramster Bill Rosenblum and his wife, Rita. We viewed some of Bill's very impressive collection of Nazi concentration camp scrip. There was lot's of currency for sale and general viewing. It is always fun to see new things and search for new and interesting items. Joe Boling was the featured speaker. Joe gave a talk on counterfeiting complete with examples of real and counterfeit notes from his collection. As usual, he was outstanding. He kept the audience enthralled for an hour and a half. When we left at 2330, he was still answering questions His efforts were definitely appreciated. More tomorrow on the exhibit opening. =========================================== Editorial =========================================== Well, here we are. Gram 800. Some time next year we will have Gram 1000. I should be able to tell you the exact date when that threshold will be met. That would require more calendar dexterity than I find agreeable at the moment, but, more to the point, unless I get much better at meeting that daily schedule, it is very unpredictable! Based upon the success of the souvenir Fest notes for the museum opening, we might have to issue another for that occasion. Hm, perhaps we should have an openhouse for that event. We could have a gala event in down town Port Clinton for all Gramsters. The budget would probably tolerate that event! In spite of saying that I did not want to calculate it, I just roughed it out. The first opportunity for Gram 1000 will probably be in early June. Realistically, that might mean that we could make it happen at Memphis, but better (and easier) would be to reach it at the summer seminar. That sounds like a plan! Fred =========================================== Mail Call =========================================== Dear Editor, It seems like only yesterday that the GRAM was first issued via electronic mail. Here we are looking at issue # 800 and it is growing everyday. The subscription rate has stayed at the same low cost since inception with no future increase indicated, *FREE* how much better can it get? We have had two editors during this period, Fred Schwan and Phil Goldstein, both have done a FANTASTIC job of keeping the gram published daily, (well almost daily), and bringing us articles filled with news and interesting information, a job well done. The depth of information is overwhelming, if you go back and reread past Grams it is amazing what has been published so far and it just keeps getting better. Thanks and praise also has to be given to the folks who take time out of their day to write a weekly or monthly article on a regular basis, Larry, Joe, Mark, Howard and the ones like myself that are hit and miss. It is the participation of all the Gramsters that keeps the Gram alive, so take a few minutes and submit an article of your choosing, military related of course. The editor is always looking, sometimes begging, for material to put the next Gram together. In past conversations with Larry, he has mentioned that in a lot of cases, just submitting a question about a POW item will help generate an informative article and also serve as an addition to the POW chit book he is working on, getting two uses for the time of one. There have been articles that brought out many opinions, good and bad, which is a good thing to have as it keeps the interest peaked from time to time. This whole MPC thing is an Addiction, whether it be notes, gas coupons, POW chits or whatever, but miss a Gram and its like losing your watch, withdrawal pains starts to set in. I would like to add this, Fred Schwan, chief editor of the Gram has devoted 30 years to this fascinating and wonderful area of collecting we are involved in. He never seems to run out of ideas to make this a more captivating hobby to be associated with, the Gram is just another one of those brainstorms which has benefited the entire field of MPC collecting and beyond. Congratulations and many thanks to you for your devotion and time given to this hobby for all of us to enjoy.
