From: "MPCgram" To: Subject: MPCGram 834 Date: Thursday, January 23, 2003 11:25 PM =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Covering the entire World of Military Numismatics Series 004 - Number 834 Thurski January 23, 2003 Fest Auction Update By Larry “Ski” Smulczenski This is my last plea for auction lots for the Fest Auction. I know we have beaten this dead dog to a pulp, but I don't want anyone coming up to me on the first day of Fest saying can you get just this one more lot in. With all the attention that this subject has gotten in the Gram for the last couple of weeks, I have received a total of two inputs during that time. That has to mean that there is nothing else out there. That's fine, because I am over 100 lots which is just about all we can handle. I just don't want to see anyone disappointed. This ought to be a real great event as have been the previous Fest auctions. Thanks to the generosity of Gramsters, the Scholarship Fund should benefit greatly from the sale of the donations that have been received. Our thanks go out to Steve Feller, Frank Clark, Bill Hines, Howard Daniel, Pam West, Doug Bell, Mr 691 and Dave Seelye for their donations. We owe Dave an exception vote of thanks for his generosity as over 50 lots in the sale have been donated by him. By the way, not all the lots for sale are donations, we do take lots for personal sale with a 10% sellers fee. We have a number of really great items, of which I will mention only a few in order to claim your interest. We have a couple of Roosevelt Dam post cards. Most of you will recognize that the back of the 692/ $20 pictures the Roosevelt Dam. These will make great additions to any MPC collection and particularly if you exhibit your collection. Another one of the lots is a belt buckle from the Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps. First item of this type that I have seen. It is a nice shiny example. On the dull side colorwise that is, we have a Chinese officers ammo and storage container. This is a great item that you very seldom see. Or how about some large size paintings of actual MPC notes. I have not seen these yet as they will not be uncrated until they arrive in Port Clinton. But I have been told that they will be highly prized. War bonds from both allied and axis countries are not the easiest items to find at a show. We are lucky to have a French war bond and two Chinese Liberty Bonds. I bought my French Bond over fifteen years ago and haven't seen another one offered since that time. So anyone interested in that kind of material should check out these lots. Additionally we have some real nice notes in the auction. There is a CU two kroner Norway 1942 Government-in-exile note as well as an uncirculated French Indo-china Ro note. A 100 peso JIM specimen with mi-hons on the left and right should interest collectors of Japanese specimen currency. There are also some great high grade MPC (XF or better) for those that didn't get what they were after in the Marv Mericle sale. And if your into replica notes, we also have the mother load of those items in the sale. One of the most interesting group of items in the sale are the four fractionals from series 681 signed by the seaman standing nearest the flag on the submarine. These have been signed on crisp uncirculated notes. I have decided to break this set into four individual lots so that more people can get a chance at one of these. Of course, no Fest auction would be complete without a mystery lot. Due to a unique donation, we will again have a mystery lot that should tempt many of you in attendance. I'm sure that you will find a number of items in this year auction of interest to you. =========================================== Editorial =========================================== Today was one of those Fred misadventures for which I am all to well known. Unfortunately, I will have to wait till tomorrow to tell it because it is just too long to work on tonight! We are excited to add to New Festers to the list! It seems that the goal of 12 New Festers is in sight. Marv Mericle and George Fitzgerald deserve some recruiting credit here. Who can recruit a few more NFs? Fred =========================================== Mail Call =========================================== Dear Editor, Thank you so much for the gram, i have learned so much. i have some gefangenen-lager from chemnitz, is this german pow money? in what catalog would i find them listed? please give your wife my best and i hope all is well, i pray for you every day. best wishes allen berk Dear Esteemed Editor: After much prodding by Marv Mericle and George Fitzgerald, I have decided to attend my first Fest. I look forward to seeing my friends and meeting some new ones. Bill Haines. Dear Editor, I Hear You.....!! Make Room For Me...I Will Be There...Finally...!! Just Booked The Plane Fare...!! I Really Look Forward To Meeting Everyone...!! I'm Sending You Payment...!! Respect, Ed Beaman Dear Editor, With much chagrin I am going to be missing ship's movement that would enable me to attend Fest IV. My bride of over 30 years (the squadron commander) is refusing to give me a 5 day leave to board the ship and get to Ohio. I hope this offense is not punishable under any articles of the Uniformed Code of MPC Justice. Tom Koch Tom, File an appeal immediately! With all of this crowing that I have been doing about new Festers, etc, it breaks my heart to REMOVE a name from the list. Editor Dear Editor, For the time allotted on Feb 28th 1930 to 2030 I would like to suggest the following topic for discussion. "Feng Shui and the art of Numerical organization in the Cosmos" The branch off topics are limitless (as you well know.) We must all know more about the interaction of the five elements upon our collections! Gary "Who has Fours?" Hicks I would like to add 1 event to the Saturday morning where I layout a complete position number set of 641's 5 cent through 10$ and have a picture of the sheets taken. I request this to start to take place at 6 am and a picture taken at 6:41 am. volunteers welcome for the layout. Doug Bell Dear Doug, We are adding this unique event to the training schedule. I can guess one volunteer to work on this series 641 project! Furthermore, all volunteers will be excused from physical training on Saturday! Editor Editor-- ***Could I ask PLEASE to update the list in the Gram? Several donators have e-mailed me to point out that their donation does not yet appear on the list!
