According to project coordinator Marcus Turner applications will be considered promptly after the deadline. Link to the application for the scholarship: http://www.papermoneyworld.net/news/Military%20Numismatists%20Scholarship%20Fund%202003.pdf Fellow MPC and PSYOPS troopers: By John Cheney This is the story of The Vietnam, Project at Texas Tech University. The Texas Tech representative Steve Maxner was kind enough to join our PSYOP (Psychological Operations) Reunion Group at our last meeting in Maryland summer of 2002. We meet every two years to discuss the current state of PSYOPS and the services efforts in that area. The next meet will be at Ft. Bragg, N.C. home of the 4th PSYOP Group (One of the units I served with in Vietnam) in year 2003. The Reunion Group is donating its collection of PSYOP material from Vietnam forward to Bosnia to the 4th PSYOP GP museum. I donated some of my collection to the PSYOP Reunion Group and the bulk of it to Texas Tech University. Mr. David E. Seelye was kind enough to estimate the value of my collection at over $10,000. It contained the following and more: American leaflets, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong leaflets, reports, administrative documents, issues of the Vietnam Observer, Vietnamese and English language newspapers, maps, Vietnam, Bosnian and South American maps as well. You can access this material and others donated to the project at: http://www.lib.ttu.edu/vietnam The Vietnam Archive at Texas Tech University: ?Collects all documents and memorabilia related to the Wars in Southeast Asia and the collective experiences of those affected by the wars; preserves this archival material ia a state-of the-art facility located on the campus of Texas Tech University; encourages the dissemination of information from the archive to all who are interested in learning more about this critical time in the a United States and world history; promotes the study and understanding of the Wars in Southeast Asia. The Oral History Project ?Preserves the recollections, perceptions, and perspectives of individuals who participated in the events surrounding the Wars in Southeast Asia through recorded interviews. To facilitate the collection of recorded interviews, The Vietnam Archive has a fulltime Oral Historian who conducts interviews with veterans and others whose lives paralleled the Wars in Southeast Asia. Interviews are recorded using digital equipment and are conducted in person, over the phone, or over the Internet depending on the individual needs of the participant. The Oral History Project helps create a more complete record of the American experience in Southeast Asia by adding recorded personal recollections to the documents, photographs, slides, maps, periodicals, books and other materials collected by the archive. The recollections, perspectives and perceptions of men and women a\who served in Southeast Asia, or were active on the home front, are an invaluable resource for present and future students and scholars. The GUIDE The Guide to the Holdings of the Vietnam Archive contains a list of the interviews and other material and is available, free of charge, to any individual interested in learning more about the Archive?s holdings. More detailed information on many of the interviews and collections, including transcripts of interviews, finding aids, and inventories for most of the collections can be found online at the Vietnam Archive at Texas Tech University, web site. It is the last day to submit an application for a scholarship to the military money seminar. Ok, I guess that the deadline is actually tomorrow, but no matter how you look at it, time is short. Unofficially, I hear that there are about 7 applications. That is wonderful. Before the Fest, I think that there were not applications! Heck, the seminar is not all that far away! I have some ideas for this year. I guess that we have to have some new ideas because we have the added advanced class. In spite of having some ideas, we can use some more so if you have some thoughts, please send them. Fred =========================================== MAIL CALL =========================================== Dear Editor Please sign up John V. Craig of Pallmetto,Fl for MPCFEST V. David Dear David, Great job, Welcome John, Editor Dear Esteemed Editor, PK 6 asked if some JIM was printed after the war. Yes, it was printed in Indonesia by those fighting the Dutch for independence. I am not sure about other places, but in Indonesia it was printed, then overprinted by the various Indonesian forces. Brian Giese broke a finger in an elevator at the Chicago Show while holding the door open for someone? I would love to see this good looking woman because he let an elevator door almost take off my foot at Memphis. Only kidding. I know he is not eligible for the Purple Heart, but could you see that he at least gets the Purple Finger! He is one of the good guys in numismatics and deserves an award, but please do not tell him that I said that. Howard A.
