It is now clear who the editor is. For the past year there has been a little inconsistency. Phil Goldstein was listed as the Gram editor. Back around Gram 700, he took over as editor for a few weeks. Possibly Ed Beaman or someone knows just how long and what numbers. He stopped performing the duties when his father became ill. One of the things that aggravated me during this editorship was to declare himself editor on the masthead (in our case mastfoot, grin). What upset me was that we had discussed this potential promotion from assistant to full editor. The plan that I explained to him (as publisher) was that when he had completed something on the order of 100 Grams, we not only would promote him, but (and this is the important part) we would do it in a big way. I would write an editorial exclaiming about his good works and wanting to turn over the reigns, etc. Then readers would send in many letters congratulating both of us. In short it would be a newsworthy event. We would also send releases to the print numismatic journals. He ignored this plan (direction) and simply boosted himself to editor. When he stopped performing the duties and I started again, I did not want to summarily remove him as editor in the same way that he had added himself. I hoped that he would one day understand and at least write a letter resigning. Of course, it was also possible that he would take over again. I wanted him to do it on his own (just as he had elevated himself on his own). David Klinger was the only person ever to write or inquire about the seeming inconsistency. I did not publish his letter waiting for the right time and way to address this matter. One of the little necessities of all of this was that, once I started performing duties as editor again, I started signing my editorials with my name. A common practice in newspapers is to have unsigned editorials when they are by the editor, or possibly even by anyone on the editorial staff. When they are by some other person they are singed or at least identified. Now I will stop signing the editorials. They remain my opinions, but the authorship and ownership of the opinions is meant to be understood since it us under the Editorial banner. Heck, for not a lot more money I can add the word opinion to the banner. As always, your comments and opinions are very welcome. =========================================== MAIL CALL =========================================== Dear Gram, Please tell me this is only another "April Fool" jokes. If it is not, can we give the individual the benefits of doubt? Please be reminded that every one is assumed to be innocent unit proven guilty. Can we have the version of the accused party? Every one has the right to defend himself. Perhaps there are some misunderstanding, forgotten trades, forgotten agreement, etc. If all that fail, can we - the MPC community - forgive one of our own? I am beyond sad. If the accusation is true, and I am sure there is a logical explanation for it, can you arrange to drop the legal charge so the individual is not in trouble with the law. Whoever it may be already learned the lesson and already paid dearly. We are all human beings with weaknesses and wants and greed. Best regards, TN Dear Sir, You make some very good points. First, let me say, that I and the others involved would not have taken the actions that we have without careful consideration. Certainly, the suspect is innocent until proven guilty. Furthermore, he is certainly welcome to space here in the Gram to state his case. As to forgiveness. I can only speak for myself. Of course there is room for forgiveness. Indeed, there is little or no room for hate, but there is also room for restitution and contriteness. I hope that we see lots of all of these things. It is a long sheet of paper with mimeographed information about each day?s tour to sites/locations not far from Tokyo. The April 1 date is a ?Silk Mill Tour? and there are another two long sheets of mimeographed paper with a colored in Red Cross describing it. And I have the Katakura & Company Limited 32-pages booklet handed out to each person on the tour of the silk mill. The booklet is interesting in that it is dated 1937 and done on high grade paper with a tied cover, and not postwar. The reason I bought this group is because of the ?Bankers? Club? on the ARC pages. But it might also be connected to chits and/or coupons at that club and this material could be added to a collection and possibly used in an exhibit. The junk store I bought it appears to have pamphlets for all of the other tour dates, if someone is interested in them. I want $5.50 postpaid for the three above items. Please contact me at Howard@SEAsianTreasury.com. Howard A. Daniel III Collection of 143 different World War II Philippine Guerilla notes on 3 and 4 pocket sleeves in three-ring binder.
