I also received my pay from Fred Schwan and in that grouping, I got 2 blank back MFC's in the $4 and $5 denominations! What a surprise for me! I am now the Past President of the Society of Paper Money Collectors, with Ron Horstman the new President. If you would like to join, an application can be printed from our website - www.spmc.org. Also, every year on the Memphis trip I have seen a sign in Princeton, Texas that says "WWII POW Camp". Princeton is NE of Dallas, maybe 40 miles or so. This year I decided to finally take a look. I followed the signs and ended up at a park that contained a half dozen or so baseball fields and supporting structures. There was a brick structure with a plaque that I will summarize. In 1941, the Honorable Sam Rayburn helped dedicate a new migrant worker camp at this site. With the onset of WWII the migrant worker camp was transformed into a POW camp for German prisoners who worked on the surrounding Princeton farms aiding in the war effort. The POW camp closed in 1946 and was used again as a migrant worker camp for several decades before closing. The only structure I saw that might have dated back to the POW camp was an old, rusted water tower. It is not listed in Osborne's WWII Sites in the US. I was glad that I had finally checked this site out. I read Coin World articles , June 2, and June 9. Also the Banknote Reporter June issue. I printed out the "press release" at the BEP site on the New $20 note! After reading all these 4 Articles I could find "no mention" of the "IR security features!! Mr. Boling, could you please respond as to where, which article and date, page # etc. that it mentions "IR infrared use??. Please advise?? ...... WHAT I DID find..........a neat paragragh in the Coin World June 9th article by Michele Orzano, CW staff, !! quote, paragragh 5, page 87. says: "Next, the back of the sheet is printed in intaglio green ink and invisible, machine readable ink and allowed to dry. (The invisible, machine-readable ink is intended to aid the visually impaired, who can use special machines to read the invisible ink to identify the denomination of the note.) END paragraph. (no mention of infrared there either?)..... On the BEP site press release article, a paragraph states about the 'peach blue/green and yellow will "aid" the visually impaired in identifying the denomination. Referring, I believe to being able to recognize the color rather than the numerals as easier to see, identifying the denomination more easily. Question: WHERE can we get the machine to study from???? How does it work?? AND will Mr. Boiling refer to the IR statements he read , so I can figure out more!!! Any new info out there?? =========================================== Editorial/opinion =========================================== When I arrived at my hotel in Memphis, the clerk demanded a photo ID. I knew that I did not have one on my person, but I expected that they would accept the one of Judy. Alas they would not. You will not believe what they DID accept. My credit card used to reserve (and pay in advance for) the room was good but not sufficient. My Fest paybook put it over the top. Yes, my paybook was accepted as identification. Throughout the show I observed many challenges with Fest coins. The biggest was at dinner on Saturday night. Our group of four (Mays and Schwans) challenged the group of about 16 and every single person had his/her coin! I did not see a single challenge win at Memphis. This is a first. We seem to be getting the message. =========================================== MAIL CALL =========================================== Dear Editor, There have been many comments about my fanaticism collecting the MFC issued and used at the MPC FEST and related meetings. I will not deny that when it comes to building my collection, I will pull out all stops to acquire the notes I need. I have just heard that I am a distant second in dedication. It should have come as no surprise when I reflected on the dedication to the impossible dream. Doug Bell just said that he is driving to Colorado Springs, arriving on Saturday get paid in whatever the finance department will be using at the Military Seminar held at the ANA. Now driving from Oklahoma to Colorado Springs just to get paid in the usually hard-to-get MFC from the ANA seminar has GOT to be over the Top. Even for me. David PS I still need any serial #1's and errors from any MFC series. Dear Gram, In trying to be the most accurate on pricing most of the values for The Planchette Report were first pulled from the 4th edition mpc bible (with permission) from there changes occurred that have been made due to auctions and new information none of the prices are pulled from prices users put in to the database at the same time prices are updated as prices are realized at auctions and sale's and then the over all pricing of notes in the database are updated to reflect the pricing.
