From: "MPCgram" To: Subject: MPCGram 960 Date: Tuesday, July 08, 2003 9:18 AM =========================================== MPC GRAM =========================================== Covering the entire World of Military Numismatics Series 004 - Number 960 Tuesday July 8, 2003 CSCC minifest report - phase II By Joe Boling Fifteen persons attended the second phase of the Colorado Springs Coin Club minifest (organized by Larry Gibbs, who did not get credit in my previous report). The drill was the same: introductions, show and tell, BS, and paycall. The payroll this time included all varieties of MFC series 031 previously reported, enhanced by a green ANA overstamp and the addition of yet another postmark, 5 July 2003 (these notes are thus postmarked twice). It will take assiduous research to determine whether all denominations and previously known varieties of series 031 were included in the relatively small stack of notes that were available for the second day of the minifest and received the 5 July postmark. Fester Kevin Neidy has prepared a souvenir card for the event, composed of a pulled proof intaglio eagle print (in green), enhanced with a four-color text reading MPC MINI FEST / July 4th 2003 / Colorodo Springs, Colorodo / Life is the gift of giving! Live! Love! And collect MPC! / Let Freedom Rule! Note the double misspelling of the reportedly spellchecked state name! The cards are serially numbered and postmarked 4 July 2003. Twenty were produced, and a donation of $20 to the fest scholarship fund (plus $1 for postage) will get one mailed to gram readers (twelve remain at this writing). If you want a specific number, email joeboling@aol.com to reserve it. Send orders and payment to: Joseph E. Boling PO Box 4718 Federal Way WA 98063-4718 Delivery will commence after I return home from the ANA summer seminar. Not all serial numbers received the complete fourth line of text, so you may receive a minor error card if you want a specific number (or if your order arrives after all of the perfect cards are sold). About nine of Harold Kroll's souvenir cards remain in Boling's hands after today's event (see yesterday's report). They are available for $10 plus $1 postage, or postfree if ordered together with the Neidy card. That payment should be made out to Harold Kroll, not to the Military Scholarship Fund. Finance officer disappears while under charges Chief of fest finance Fred Schwan failed to return to his arrest in quarters Saturday after being allowed to take a minifest attendee to the airport. A subsequent examination of his quarters revealed that he had taken everything but an aviation magazine, some rubber bands, and a Dry-Erase marker. No doubt he left the magazine behind so that it would appear he intended to return, but as of 2200 Saturday, no further sign of him was evident. He had deputized Warner Talso to pay the minifest attendees, and slipped away during the minifest under cover of the pay call. However, before investigators could determine where Talso was to return the undisbursed funds, he also departed the AO. No suspicion falls on Talso, but investigators would like to know whether Schwan made any arrangement to recover the residual cash. Upon reaching Fest headquarters (rear), I was able to obtain asylum from the outrageous charges leveled by Festers in Colorado who apparently did not receive the Fest notes that they wanted for their collections! Although the charges are ridiculous (but mostly true), I was able to receive protection only because I had a get-out-of-jail free card issued by a courteous bail bondsman and poker player in Colorado named Bob. =========================================== MAIL CALL =========================================== Dear Editor, I have a pair of end boards from one of the "bricks" sold as part of the last MoD sell-off of redundant BAFSVs. They were used for the BAFSV, 2nd series £1 with serial numbers AA/9 513001 TO AA/9 514000. They have been carefully removed from the "brick" by simply cutting one tape. I now possess both boards connected by the tape, and with an intact TdlR wax seal. One board has the four pencil signatures on the form giving the issue and serial number details. I also possess on of the notes from this "brick"; AA/9 513052. I have mounted and framed all these items, both for display (out of direct sunlight) and to protect the tape and wax seal. Regards, A. M. C. Dear Editor, I thought you might find this interesting. You are not the only ones with email Newsletter deliver problems. This is from the Kim Kommando email Newsletter. Warner Q. Somehow, I've managed to block your weekly newsletter from my e-mail. I'm using America Online. Can you tell me how to unblock it? A. You have a lot of company. I get messages every week about this. AOL, Yahoo! and MSN users seem to have the biggest problems. All of these systems have strong spam controls. They allow the user to specify what will be blocked. Sometimes, people accidentally block mail they would like to receive. AOL's mail controls are easy to use. To access the settings: -On the toolbar, click Mail>>Mail Controls. Click Next--Under Set Mail Controls For, select your screen name --Select Customize Mail Controls for this Screen Name and click Next--You have five choices for mail customization. You apparently have chosen one that blocks some e-mail. I suggest you pick the third choice, which allows you to list the addresses from which you want to receive e-mail. Add these addresses for my newsletters: Click Next and you're done. If you have accidentally blocked an address in Yahoo!, go to the Mail area and click Mail Options. Under Management, click Block Addresses. Find the address in the Remove Block box. Highlight it, and click the Remove Block button. The procedure is similar in MSN. In the mail area, click Options. Under Mail Handling, click Block Sender. Find the address you want to unblock in the Block Sender List. Click it to highlight it, then click Remove. =========================================== CALENDAR OF EVENTS =========================================== http://calendar.yahoo.com/mpcgram American Numismatic Association Convention.
