When MPC was
seized to be used as evidence in criminal proceedings, it was
cancelled. This made the evidence worthless in commerce and eliminated
the problems that would result from a conversion. The stamp says
"NOT NEGOTIABLE/CID EVIDENCE". Slight variations in the stamp
have been seen and the notes have been found both with and without
initials. At least two colors of stamp ink have also been seen. CID is
the Army's Criminal Investigation Division.

Cancelled evidence certificates were not
seen in the collectors' market until 1995, when some were found among
notes brought in from Vietnam. Since that time they have gained
acceptance by collectors. All of the dollar denominations have been
found but none of the fractional notes. One military police Vietnam
veteran reports that normally MPs did not bother marking the fractional
denominations.
